If that is the case, I'm fine with it.

Aside from his two sons, Keelon did no recruiting while in his job(s) at Memphis, either as an assistant or as dir of player development. And from what I have heard from a couple of Memphis high school coaches, Tubby's team might now get a look from some of the top Memphis players (assuming Keelon is gone too)........time will tell.

RE: Tubby's message is loud and clear
Here's an idea, Bowen could fire two of Tubbys assistants. Tell him that Saul and one of the other 2 have to go. Tell Tubby if he isn't ok with it he can quit. Tell Tubby he will have a list of top level recruiting assistant candidates to pick from. Make him bring in real coaches that can recruit or he can leave. You will then either pay zero for his buyout or have actual recruiters bringing in actual talent.

there might be a slight problem with your "pay zero for his buyout" theory

That would be a good start...

Not if he quit the job, which was the premise of the post.

Perfect

But does Tubby's contract give him control of his staff? You have to assume he got that because he was protecting his people.

Because the coaches aren't hatin' now?

Will Tubby be able to convince a high level Memphis kid to come to his team when he cannot recruit at a high level?

OK..has he signed the contract for this next year?

I also would like to know if his assistant entourage were written into the contract.
That would suck.

Maybe we can switch to the SWAC next season.

Looks like an opening in MVC since Witchita is coming.

For all of you saying you are fine with Tubby's "plan"-when we are 10-21 next year (unless we schedule ALL patsies OOC); we will see how you react next year when reality sets in and we are losing 2 of 3 games we play and there are 2-3K are at the games. I will also guess most of you that are fine with it are football first fans and see basketball as a secondary sport.

RE: Tubby's message is loud and clear
Hypothetical: Say there is a coach who 1. really feels he is above the modern day recruiting methods 2. doesn't like players with baggage (no matter how talented they may be) 3. has a staff (with the exception of one feller) who won't get down and dirty in the recruiting trenches. 4. says he didn't realize what he was getting into with his new Job. 5. goes public and tells fans to lower their expectations after one season

How can a coach, who isn't that good at recruiting, convince players to come to a place which sounds like he might not even like. lol. just askin.
