Steve Forbes. I've been pushing for him for the last couple years. We could probably get him for a third of what we pay Tubs

Forbes. Penny is unproven at the college level he needs to cut his teeth somewhere first. I've never been a fan of Kennedy.

For what we're going to have to pay Tubby to go away we'll need to go cheap. Problem is Forbes going to be much pricier than he was last year.

You're not the first person I've heard say that, but I'm not sure why. The initial violation was off-campus contact during an unofficial visit. That's still illegal, as far as I know.

The lying was really what did it, though - obviously. He told the recruits and family to lie the day of the cookout. He told the coaches to lie before they went before investigators. And he lied.

I'm interested as to why you like Forbes but not Kennedy? Totally serious, help me understand

While you didn't direct your question to me, I'll answer with my opinion. Kennedy has never won big. Sure, he's been at a sub-par basketball school and has succeeded there (in relative terms). But, he hasn't blown the roof off that program. A lot of Mississippi fans want him gone, for that matter. I believe he's a good coach, and would be a safe hire. But, I don't think he'll take us to where Tiger fans want to go.

Forbes is a bit of a mystery, which I believes adds to the intrigue. But, he's succeeded in all of his major positions. A lot of people credit Pearl's success to Forbes. They took a UT program (which is historically a sub-par program) to a level they've never experienced prior. He took the hit when they got caught cheating (maybe rightfully so). But, hes done a helluva job at ETSU. He seems like a winner, and seems to understand the business.

Fair enough. FWIW, I'd be okay with either...assuming we can't get any of the big names.

I think what AK has been able to do at Ole Miss, despite everything he's had working against him is pretty impressive. I wonder what he could do at a school with a real recruiting budget.

But ... I don't think fans would be nearly as excited about AK as they would Forbes. It's a bit odd to me, but I do believe your opinion is the general opinion.

I read his magazine and his SNL performance is one of my favorites Rimshot No seriously I just think there is more upside. Kennedy has been at Ole Miss 10 years and been to the NCAA tournament twice. Forbes has been at ETSU two years and has been to the NCAA tournament once. That's my line of thinking.

Penny would be a great assistant, both in teaching fundamentals and recruiting. Not sure he has the overall skills needed to be a successful high D-1 head coach.

You bring up a good point. They both have names that reek money. So, I'm convinced. Go after both. Gotta be better than a last name of Smith.

I'm might be starting to come around to Kennedy. Maybe if he can get that ole miss stink off of him he might be serviceable - we couldn't be much worse off.

But how about this: Do a combo deal. Bring in Forbes and he hires Penny as an assistant and let him see if he wants to put in the effort to go into college coaching whole hog or not. If it turns out not to be his thing he can bow out and all we are losing is an AC - no long-term hard feelings with a Memphis legend.

He should become very knowledgeable about Memphis area basketball and become an expert in exploiting his knowledge.

I want a coach with the mentality to work 24/7/365 if that is what it takes to get the job done. Vacations should be forced upon him because such is his zeal to succeed.

I want a coach ceaselessly promoting our program with the media and fans.

I want a coach that understands his weaknesses and is willing to mitigate it (e.g., knows he needs and "x and o" assistant coach).

We ran him off---he is in Atlanta now. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have righted the ship and got us back to the level we expect. Nobody worked harder or had more drive .

That coach would be great in a few years. Right now, he needs more experience in delegating with his staff.
He had a great first year, at a new school. He is much more experienced than he was here.
Used Memphis as his learning curve, and will do very well later. He just burned too many bridges the last 2 years he was here.

I am not at all fascinated by Pearl or AK. Don't understand this man crush thing for Forbes either.

I would be thrilled if the search committee found the Norvell type coach for BB. We have tried the big name coach, and the new coach.
Time for a Norvell type coach.
