Whenever someone in Cincinnati says the name "Oscar Robertson," everyone in the room should stand up and place their hand over their heart. Or something.

Instead, all I ever hear about him is stuff like this. Come on, Oscar, we want to love you... let us love you.

What in Oscar's comment bothers you? Do you know anything about Oscar's time at UC or what was happening in the nation? The fact that Oscar takes issue with people being casually dismissed or being told second class treatment is ok is not surprising at all. I would have been more surprised if he had not commented.

If you want a symbol of UC who only supports the university that you can love unconditionally I suggest you focus on the Bearcat mascot.

I was kidding, my friend. I still respect Oscar tremendously. There just was not a better viable option for UC to go with in this situation, so any public statements like this will only serve to further stir up resentment toward UC while actually changing nothing. If he or anyone else in the local media cared so much, why didn't they suggest a better alternative? Logistics are very complicated for college teams.

And how many UC women's games have Oscar, the reporters making these stories, and the people getting offended been to lately? If they want UC to support both teams equally, then shouldn't they support both teams equally by going to as many women's games as men's games?

I've been to at least 30 UC women's games since 2010, and I can tell you that if they officially average nearly 1000 in attendance, they must be counting anyone who walks by Fifth Third Arena during the game. I would sometimes individually count people in the stands, and never counted more than 50 - 200 max except for UCONN, OSU, Rutgers, and NKU.

My point is that anyone who is offended by the lack of support for our women's team should "put their money where their mouth is" and go support the team themselves. It isn't hard, because the games are free.

Yea, they probably should've scheduled it at a place like Mt. St. Joe's or even UC Clermont. I think had they had the women's team playing on a college campus there wouldn't be near the negative press. Never mind that from looking at pictures of Clermont's gym it might actually be smaller than St. Ursula's - plus Clermont is at least a half hour from main campus...

Also have to keep in mind that most of the local universities probably have men's and women's basketball and volleyball practices and games being held in their gyms that would have to be scheduled around (UC's women are also apparently practicing at St. Ursula). St. Ursula only has women's teams to worry about. And NKU's volleyball team doesn't appear to play in BB&T in case anyone was curious, they have a separate facility.

This whole thing is a joke, typical 2017 outrage over nothing. This is comparable to the 3 year old complaining that his big brother got a bigger piece of cake despite the fact that he can't even eat the entire piece he was given. It's one freaking year! These social warriors will look for any excuse of outrage. I really wish schools would start teaching kids supply/demand charts at a much younger age and spending a lot more time on it. It makes zero economically sense for ladies to be bussing over to NKU, and I would argue that they would draw even less of a crowd.

As for the Big O, he was the greatest of all time at basketball, but is a complete dolt when it comes to common sense or business logic.

Bohn is contending that the women's BBall team placement was purely based upon scheduling and they aren't able to change at this point.

So at this point, if we are to believe Mike Bohn, this issue was resolved within parameters of Title IX (which why wouldn't that be on the mind of the AD) and the university made a good faith effort to provide meaningful facilities for all of their programs. It seems like someone didn't like the decision that was made and decided to get a lick in on UC by filtering their views through the press.

It's all a bunch of young, recently graduated millennial's being brought in from the east coast who have zero ties or knowledge about Cincinnati who promote Gannett's radical social justice agenda. USA Today/Gannett has completely ruined all local papers nationwide.

So what is PDocs excuse? He has been trashing UC for years.

I'll tell you this about Daugherty - he lives in the same neighborhood I grew up in (about 100 houses). He's lived there for at least 20-30 years. His kids are the same age as my little brothers. My parents (who still live there) socialized a lot when they were younger and knew almost everyone in the neighborhood. But they don't know the Daughertys. My little brothers played outside a lot and knew just about every kid their age in the neighborhood, but they don't know Mr. Daugherty's kids.

I grew up in the same neighborhood. Doc definitely had a reputation for keeping to himself, but I never heard anything bad about him.

Based on Daugherty's articles, he's too busy reminiscing about his boyhood memories in suburban DC and about how the Pirates and Ravens are doing to have any time left over to go outside and connect with the realities of Cincinnati.

I took a journalism class at UC that PDoc taught in the mid-2000s. He didn't want to talk about sports - was far more interested in stories about the tattoo place near campus. In that case, not sure why he was teaching a class that was obviously primarily interested in sports reporting.

Exactly. He's not really a sports reporter (and he's said so himself in his column, repeatedly). It's odd though - a human interest reporter who writes about sports figures. And doesn't really spend much time with, you know, other people.

It would be nice if all these "supporters" of women's bball worried as much about winning games.

That's why I don't care for his column. I like writers who are deeply knowledgeable about their subject matter. PDoc is just a quipster.

Remember when he did sports talk on the radio for a while? It was absolutely abysmal. During the Orange Bowl year, we played WVU on a Friday night in November, and the topic he decided on for the show just before the game was favorite wedding songs.03-lmfao You can't make crap like that up.

I understand the point that some people feel WBB should play in the big arena just like MBB. On the other hand, WBB gets less than 10% of MBB's attendance. Why should university funds be wasted to rent a larger-than-needed arena? The fundamental problem of these left-wingers is that they are angry at the reality that most folks just don't care about most women's sports, won't pay to watch, and won't even show up for free.

If the university had negotiated one package deal to accommodate both teams the cost change would have had less of an impact. I don't know, this may have been what they tried to do originally.

The university needs to get out in front of the message and be a little more transparent. The tend to be surprisingly tone deaf.

Conspiracies aside, as long as the athletic department is 50% funded by student fees decisions like this are hard to accept. Again, get in front of the message and explain the reasoning and it minimizes speculation in the news.

I'm still amazed the outrage people feel over "equality" but don't bother to spend money on women's sports, they just feel others should.

I wonder how many women's games Oscar has attended?

If the women's team drew 10,000+ a game and the men's team drew under 1,000, we would have scheduled the women at NKU and the men at St. Ursula. There was equal opportunity for both teams.

I hate when people try to guarantee equal outcomes instead of just providing equal opportunities.

Likley zero. He doesn't even come to most of the men's games anymore.

How about the Enquirer and Oscar's company buying up 3,000 tickets to each game and then perhaps another arena would make sense. I doubt either has ever bought a ticket.

From the Enquirer it's the left wing everybody gets a trophy crowd. From Oscar it's just more of his seeing discrimination behind everything.
