I'd like to see Georgetown be a factor again but sure feels like they are playing a game of "I Love the 80's"

RE: Ewing new head coach at Georgetown
Can you point out the Dream Team players that coached their alma maters after their playing days were over?
Drexler and Mullin have very similar records after 2 years.
Clyde Drexler's record
1998–99 Houston 10–17, 5–11, 6th (National Division)
1999–00 Houston, 9–22, 2–14, 6th (National Division)
Houston overall: 19–39 (.327), 7–25 (.219)
Chris Mullin's record
2015–16 St. John's, 8–24, 1–17, 10th
2016–17 St. John's, 14–19, 7–11, 8th
St. John's Red Storm overall: 22–43 (.338), 8–28 (.222)

Mullins team is heading in the right direction with one of the best back courts in the country coming back in LoVett and Ponds. Should make a NCAA run next year.

RE: Ewing new head coach at Georgetown
While the other nBE teams are moving forward....Georgetown is stuck in the 80s. Maybe Ewing will be a good coach. He might do reasonably well with recruiting at least initially.
But, there are a lot of good players with assistant coaching experience who failed miserably as head coaches. And Ewing is moving into a very competitive environment for his first head coaching job.
We will see.

^^^ This.
Quo Vadis wanted Gregg Marshall but they were always going to go with the nostalgia hire.
The presser was bizarre with how they were posing him like the day he committed.
Truth is, Georgetown should be committed. Ewing said that he doesn't believe that recruiting has changed since he was recruited. Then he talks about getting AI and MJ to talk to recruits.
He's got a steep learning curve.
You can verse him on the rulebook, but how do you implant the experience that informs the nuances of working within those boundaries? You simply can't. I'm surprised JT didn't tell him. I'd be even more surprised if JT doesn't pick out his assistants.
This is the NBE's signature team. They just tried to poach Xaviers and PCs coaches. Things aren't going well.

Homer, you're obsession with the BE continues I see. But you've been strangely silent about many AAC happenings, minus the AAC begging of Wichita to come bail out your hoops. What about Memphis Homer? What's going on there? While you've been obsessing over Georgetown, you seem to have missed that. That's a disaster. What about the conference tournaments Homer, did you enjoy the sell out crowds at Madison Square Garden? What was the reason for the empty arena at the AAC final? That truly was embarrassing and a black eye for the conference. Your most avid fan base in the conference had zero interest. If even they don't care, why should anyone else? The AAC office was so embarrassed they refused to even release attendance figures. And we both know what UCONN people think. You can read the Boneyard and have them tell you in their own words. I don't blame them a bit, they deserve so much better.
Homer 70% of our teams made the NCAA tournament this year. You guys had what 18% I think. How did that happen? Congrats about Wichita, they are a good team. But even if you had them this year, you would have had three bids, same as the A10, and you would have had two tournament wins, also same as the A10. Seems like there's still a long way to go. And of course nobody in our conference is looking to leave, while everyone in yours has their bags packed while sitting by the phone.
So rather than continue with your unhealthy BE obsession, maybe your incisive eye should be turned inward. I have nothing against the AAC, but your twisted obsession with us is beyond bizarre. Surely you must realize how ridiculous you look when you try to act like you have the upper hand here.

RE: Ewing new head coach at Georgetown
No head coaching experience. No college coaching experience. I think Georgetown could have done better.
He could still do well if he gets some really good assistants. Then there is the issue of retaining good assistants.
He's right about recruiting not changing. Social media is a fad. It will never last.

I respect BIGEASThomer. I don't agree with some of his posts, but I value his unquestioned loyalty to the American, and his support of (I think...) Houston, Temple and UCF. There's no question that he has, recently, used Wichita State's inclusion into the AAC as an opportunity to passively aggressively attack the Big East - in the past few weeks alone he has done so against Georgetown for Ewing, Creighton's admission into the Big East, and for St. Johns' hiring of Mullin.
Going back to 2012/2013, his posts do have an open distaste for the C7/Big East. That is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, it is beating a dead horse. His views are established, as are the results and perception of the Big East. His apprehension and resentment towards the Big East in 2013 may have been verified if the league wasn't successful, but it has been and the national media and casual fans agree.
Frankly, it's time for BIGEASThomer and the whole Big East vs. AAC stuff to move on. Attacking the other side in hopes of somehow establishing your side as being the better conference is just small and petty. Both conferences and their respective teams are in better positions moving forward.

RE: Ewing new head coach at Georgetown
We'll see. I would have liked Ewing's first gig to be at a smaller school with less scrutiny. But he can pitch to recruits "I was in the NBA over 20 years as a coach and player. I know what it takes to make it, and I can help you get there." That should be able to overcome all these various handlers, AAU coaches, whomever.
The rulebook, that's for another day.
