The great thing about message boards is it allows us all to speak candidly. As you know, I experienced the Drexler regime. Ewing may be a great coach... but the hire wasn't the slam dunk that you'd expect a Georgetown to make. Is he going to outcoach anyone? Maybe he will... Maybe not... There are a lot of guys Georgetown could have hired that I'd say beyond any shadow of a doubt would outcoach their opponent on any given day.
I liked both Mullin and Ewing as players. I feared them as competitors. They both have yet to earn my respect as coaches. They were nostalgia hires. If I were a Georgetown fan, I'd be feeling a lot better if the Hoyas hired Danny Manning.

"Nostalgia hires"
..that's just it. He's the only guy that GT could have hired to replace JTIII w/o PO-ing off the alumni/boosters.
Hes an interim HC, not a slam dunk.

your statement is partly true. The real statement is that he's the only guy that GT could have hired to replace JTIII w/o PO'ing off JTjr.

RE: Ewing new head coach at Georgetown
Ewing's big test will be who he chooses as assistants. He has already hired Louis Orr, who is a former head coach at Seton Hall, player at Syracuse, and assistant and both Xavier and Providence. There are rumors he is really pushing hard for Shammond Williams at WKU, who is a former teammate of Ewing's in the NBA, and has established himself as an excellent recruiter (look at WKU's recruiting class this year). I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Jarvis, his former HS coach and head coach at St. Johns, also had a spot on the staff as well.
The more experienced college coaches/recruiters that Ewing gets, the better.
