They were lucky to land Steve Alford 10 years ago. This guy sucked at East Carolina, so I doubt he does any better at UNM. I don't want to see Barnes at UNM. Barnes is who they need to hire.

I don't think UNM can afford to hire some big name coach. They will have to pay the next coach way less because they have to pay the buyout for Neal. I think the next hire will be the next Richie McKay.

If they hire Barnes they could get him for a bargain and they would be getting a great coaching. The man was National COY at Ole Miss. What's he making at Bakersfield Runnerball?

I'm scared that UNM will get him. He will be able to get better athletes at UNM, and his system will give us nightmares every year.

Barnes is interested in UNM, so far UNM is not interested in Barnes.

RE: Rod Barnes-UNM
It's one thing for your head coach to talk to AD's, looking for a new head coach for their program, when they come knocking on our coach's front door. But it's another thing when your head coach is soliciting for jobs; essentially knocking on ADs doors... Fortunately, for CSUB fans, UNM's AD (Krebs) is not home at the moment. If I were a CSUB fan, I would be very irritated with Barnes right now. Just my opinion.

Exactly. Barnes is showing that Bakersfield is just a rung to climb to where he really wants to be. He would be a great hire for UNM but UNM thinks they are a P5 school and will try to hire Rick Pitino. What do the Bakersfield fans think about your coach trying to leave Bakersfield? Is it a ploy for another raise? Could Bakersfield even afford to pay him more?

What's the move/path/target for Barnes? WAC to MWC, & finally back to SEC?

Menzies is the only one I've been around to see leverage success into a better position/conference. Who were the last few before him?

Well, since NMSU joined the WAC, the Georgia Head Coach Mark Fox started out at Nevada and the Florida Head Coach Mike White started out at Louisiana Tech.

And I guess you could include NMSU's Reggie Theus as well. After taking NMSU to the NCAA Tournament in 2007, he got hired as the Sacramento Kings head coach. Although, it lasted less than two seasons.
