Dayton has that kind of money to offer its head coaches...Dayton?? 04-jawdrop

And Toledo doesn't even come close to that...What's wrong with this picture?

What's wrong........Dayton draws close to 13,000 per home game, while Toledo draws 4,500.

Football (when Toledo plays on Saturdays) Toledo 20,000; Dayton 2,000

2000 for Pioneer football sounds about right. I would expect that, but 20,000 for Toledo on a Saturday. Nothing to hang your hat on.
We should do at least 25,000 plus. Toledo should love their Rocket football like Dayton loves Flyer basketball.

Hard to fill a stadium for a 6 pm start in November on a Tuesday

Dayton has been an elite college basketball program for 50 plus years. Top 30 attendance, host NCAA's yearly, NCAA teams, etc...At the height of Nichols years UT was comparable, but only for a minute.

Especially when you can barely draw 20k on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September.

Toledo does not draw well on Saturday afternoons because 1) many people work on Saturdays in this working class town, 2) too many kids activities in the mornings for families that are not working....... 3) students still sleeping from night before or have gone home for weekend..

But, if you claim (not you, yourself) to be a true Rocket fan and you see that there are only 3 Saturday games. Don't you make it a point to attend them?

This whole "MACtion" thing isn't new. It's been going on for years and doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon.

You could schedule every game in the month of September as a 7pm home game and the attendance wouldn't improve much.

also helps that Dayton has been the host of the first four for a while. a bit of prestige there.

I have had trouble making day games at the Glass Bowl because of work. I got to homecoming at the start of the 4th quarter a couple years ago.....

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
Dayton spends about $8M a year on basketball (combined men's/women's) and only about $1M on football.

UT spends about $4M on basketball (combined) and $9M on football.

So, schools without D1 football can afford to spend lavishly on BBall, and they do so because it's their only marquee sport to get name recognition.

And many of those schools are actually making money on basketball, while UT is losing money on BB and football.

I think I heard that with the help of the First Four, Dayton has hosted more NCAA games than any other arena in the country.

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
Even though basketball in Pittsburgh takes a back seat to Steelers football, and Penguins hockey, the Duquesne job would be a hard one to pass up. I go back to the Pittsburgh area several times a year. Talking with some of the locals, they believe that, with the right coach, Duquesne could get back to it's glory years. The campus is beautiful, and sits adjacent to a bustling downtown overlooking the Monongahela River and the Duquesne incline. The arena will get a much needed renovation, which I think is another positive factor. The school has deep pockets, to be sure ...

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
Bumping this because of what happened last night (Dec. 19th). Duquesne was tied with Penn State in the last few seconds. The Nittany Lions had the ball. Read about/see what happened then. Let's just say Coach Dambrot was not happy (and probably still isn't).

The audio with the video you can find at the link doesn't seem great but I think you'll get the idea. Here's the link.

The reaction he had was unreal. Even with a bad call, his team still had plenty of time to win or tie. Dambrot said after the game that the techs and ejection were disrespectful. He completely lost it, of course a ref is going to give you a T for that!

RE: Keith Dambrot to Duquesne
well, it was a horrible call to decide the winner of a big game. almost as bad as the similar terrible second half call on buffalo at syracuse. in that game a UB player had a fast break and the syracuse defender planted himself in front of the restricted area but the UB guy also sidesteps him, the cuse kid sticks out his knee to draw contact and then flops like he just got shot in the chest. refs get tricked on the charge/block call regularly. if you are in bad position or can't see clearly how the contact was initiated just swallow the whistle. just cuz a plays falls down doesn't mean there needs to be a foul call.
