The fact that Ohmer has only verbaled makes me wonder if Calipari might be getting some pressure from big blue nation to go after this kid. He burst onto the scene at the Kentucky State tournament, for those who don't know, and lead Scott High (a fairly new school, on the basketball scene at least, in the Cincinnati metro area) to the state finals against the favorite Bowling Green High and nearly pulled it off. He put up some impressive numbers for a 5'10" guard. Bowling Green is really good and has an 8th grader who was 3rd team All-State.

No offense to Ohmer, but I am sure zero UK fans are putting any pressure on Cal to offer this guy....I guess maybe he could be a walk on, but my guess OHmer wants a scholarship, besides no one can sign until spring signing period starts here in a few weeks...

As far the threads I just see a lot of WKU fans excited what we have on paper, no one has declared we are running through CUSA and on our way to the Final Four....Huge difference, I would think we are allowed to have a little excitement before the seasons...Besides this is good for CUSA also...

I clicked on your examples and I didn't read any of the threads, but I did see where all of the subjects were about recruiting, not the season that just passed.

well, you get the point.

but hey, at least you have something to cheer about. we have Doc Sadler converting 5 consecutive 20-win seasons into 3 consecutive 20-loss seasons to cheer about.

Yeah, I don't remember much more than cautious optimism from WKU fans before this past season but if they fall flat next season then yes we will certainly all join together and bash them soundly.

In all seriousness that's super impressive.

My biggest disappointment with Doc came during his first 6 months on the job, before any of the NCAA junk hit the fan. He came in and coasted. He did not add any worthwhile players through recruiting in the late spring and summer, and was not coaching on the sidelines much at all until after the Christmas break during his first season. He inherited some pretty good talent, but the players (when he had them for the first month or so) had regressed from their previous year's performance and he did not (and still doesn't) get the same amount of hustle and energy that Eustachy's and Tyndall's teams played with.

Ohmer has verballed because it's not the signing period yet. As for the rest of the class, it looks great. Everyone around here is excited. We should be. If it was your school, you would be too.

I'm sure we're going to go undefeated in conference play and then win the National Championship this year and all years following. Basically, WKU is the going to be what UCLA was in the 1960s and 70s.

I love when UK Fans act like they never get any calls? Instead of blaming the refs maybe they should question their HC why they were outscored 12-0 towards end of game when they were up 5.....Also Coach Cal can be blamed calling the rednecks/Jethro to arms when he said "I am surprised we were in the game at all after first half" Their two best players go 2 fouls, not 3, 4 but 2 fouls and he is whining and crying....

Only winning 1 title in last 20 years with 8 Hamburgers every year is really wearing on the fan base as well as the coach...I think next season they are not great with basically zero seniors and or juniors on roster....

More than that, had that same team lost in the conference tournament final, they would have been in the NIT. That is simply the truth. It blows, but they'll put a fifth or sixth place P5 team in first.

Ok, I'm going to say it, and it will probably offend some of y'all. I'm not trolling, truly I'm not, just expressing some doubt.

When WKU has a better recruiting class than North Carolina, let alone the other Final Four teams, it makes me wonder. You remember when Mississippi State football all of a sudden started to sign all these five star stud players to come to Starkvegas? I have to wonder whether Stansbury is that good a recruiter or if there is more going on than is on the surface. I know the guy can recruit. I may be completely wrong. Hell, I hope so.

Yes, if all those guys were coming to UAB I'd be very damned happy, but honestly, no s***, if we had that class coming in I'd be as much worried as happy about it.

Again, not ill wishing... just wondering.

Years ago, teams that won tournament games didn't get paid the amount of money that they do now. The P5 teams do NOT want to see more of us in the tournament and taking "their" money. You'll also notice if you check the brackets that they tend to pair off good mid-majors in the second round, so that one of them will go away no matter what.

One of two things.....

1. Coach Stansbury has a gift and out works everyone

2. He's the best cheater in college basketball to get away with it for over 15 years as a head coach and many more as a asst.

Which one is most likely? He recruited 5 stars and top 4 star players to Starkville Mississippi beating out some of the top schools for those players. Just like in football...

when the bigboys gets beat on players. They tend to look for cheating. It's damn hard to be a head coach for 15 years and recruit top players and not get caught...

if you are cheating/paying players

I'm going to be completely honest. As long as he can go another 15 years (ever how long he's at Western) recruiting as he has the last 15...

I don't care if it's #1 or #2

But I don't see him being able to continue to bring in top 25 classes at Western. Or top 50 classes. This class was like the perfect storm. But then again that could be selling Coach Stansbury short on his gift.

I'm not worried (until I have reason to be) because there is a plausible story behind how this happened. Stansbury was recruiting Robinson (the McDonald's All American) at Texas A&M and had built a relationship with him over time. This is valuable because Robinson is kind of a shy kid and wants to go somewhere where he will not feel alone. To close the deal Stansbury hired Robinson's Godfather as an assistant. Then once you have the 5 star center in place other talented players want a chance to play with him. The more pieces that fall into place the easier the sell gets. I have no reason to think that this isn't exactly what happened so why worry about what I can't control?

To piggyback on Guns and 2K, it was a perfect storm.

The jewel of the class rating wise is Mitchell Robinson. As explained Stans had a long relationship and then HIRED HIS DAMN GODFATHER. Lofl. Not against the rules. Been happening since they had peach baskets to shoot into.

He hired a whole damn staff of recruiters. There were real regular season games this year where Stansbury had 2 of his staff on the road recruiting instead of being at a real regular season game helping coach. It shows what he thinks of their hoops input if he doesn't need them there and shows that he knows how he's going to win. By the Jimmies and Joes, not the Xs and Os.

The recruit that impressed me the most is Josh Anderson. He's top 100 in every rating and top 50 in one of them I believe. We'd be crowing if we had just got him in the past. And they just straight up recruited him. We didn't hire his coach as far as I know. All of our assistants have good ties to Louisiana so that helped. Hell, they helped our womens coach recruit a girl hoopster out of Louisiana this year.

Getting Ky Mr Basketball was a coup but it happened in a year where neither Louieville or UK wanted him.

I've been to around 3-4 of Stansbury's speaking engagements. He oozes charisma. You WOULD buy a car off of him. And he'd get you to pay what he wanted. I'm with Guns, I'd be surprised if we ever pull one off rated this highly again unless we go out trolling for godfathers.

No one thought Alabama or Auburn would have highly ranked hoops classes either, it happen this season....Agree having Robinson certainly helped ranking...Getting the first one has to be the hardest, so if we can have any top of success moving forward I can see Stans getting another top 20 guy, not sure about top 10 but maybe top 25...He already had next years top player Zion Williamson almost on a visit and he already has 2019's top player Charles Bussey mentioning us and how he likes the school...So that is better then any of the last 10 years, its a start....Basketball recruiting just takes one standout player, after that is easier to get Josh Anderson and Hollingsworth...I know UAB fans must have some sour grapes losing out on Hollingsworth but our best teams ever have always included a Mr. Basketball from our state...

I will say looks like spring is going to be more difficult, why we always have to get these guys signed in the fall...

I would not underestimate Stansbury and WKU on its future abilities to bring in Top 50 or Top 25 Classes. We've done it throughout our history and it looks like it may continue. Look at the list of prospects for the 2019 class that is considering WKU. Not saying it will happen, but just being considered by this type of talent is a start.

I hope that he can keep doing it as long as it's legit. The league needs all the good teams it can get. His history doing it in Starkeville either means that he's a damn good recruiter or he's pretty sly about how he does things, or maybe both.

To be fair, I neglected to consider in my first post that UNC's recruiting is way down because of uncertainty regarding how the NCAA will rule as well.
