Looks like he’s visited Rutgers and WVU but no offers.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
Our recruiting has really slipped the last few years. We only have a couple guys with D1 offers and it’s pretty much service academies or CUSA schools.

Just as an example it looks like we have to take some offensive tackles for next year, according to 247 we missed on our first 7 highest ranked offers. The highest ranked offer was only a 3 star and 62nd at his position. Our commits are ranked 192, 202, 214 and 250 for OTs. And not ranked nationally. Only 1 of the 4 had D1 offers.

I actually think this guy might've been offered by the Bailiff staff.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
Our new OC seems to have a prior relationship with this guy and they just followed each other on twitter:

https://recruitgeorgia.com/players/aubre...brunswick/

From South Georgia also which is one of the areas Bloomgren has familiarity with... Might be worth keeping an eye on.

I haven’t seen anything online that Jerry Mack was going to be OC, just that he is coming to Rice. Did I miss something, is that just speculation, or is it insider info?

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
"I'm hearing Jerry Mack is leaving NCCU to be the offensive coordinator at Rice University"-Some guy on Twitter.

That said, even without that, I highly, highly suspect that it's the OC job.

No FCS coach is going to leave for a position coach job, especially when they're already making ~200k as a head guy. A coordinator position, certainly.

I've heard very unofficially that Mack will be the OC. I think it's correct, nothing else really makes a lot of sense.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
Coach Bloomgren started following Bryce Houston on twitter, a LB committed to Ohio University. Other offers from Buffalo, Eastern Kentucky, and Bowling Green. Found an article from May saying that he also had interest from West Virginia and ... Stanford and that Stanford was looking at making him a fullback! He tore his ACL in October.

While Iona Prep is in New Rochelle, kids from all around Westchester Co. and maybe even some from NYC go there. So he could be from anywhere in this area. That said, I'll be on the look-out since I'm living in New Rochelle.

Yet another potentially huge benefit of this hire is Bloomgren's knowledge of HOW to recruit nationally --- assuming he's given the resources to do so.

Coach Smith just followed this guy on Twitter. DT from Atlanta area.

Looks like he's had some P5 offers in the past (Stanford, MS St.), but unclear whose recruiting him now.

Many reports from North Carolina say Mack's our next OC:

Bloomgren with three new follows on twitter this morning:

-Cliff Gandis, K/P, Greenville, SC, Offers: Davidson

Took a visit to Stanford earlier this fall though. Fox will be a senior this coming year so we probably are looking to bring in someone in this class.

-Jake Spytak, OT, The Woodlands, TX, SMU Commit, Offers: SMU, UNT, Rice, Army, Air Force, UNM, Bowling Green, Tulane, Tulsa, etc.

-Christian Jones, OT, Cypress (Cy-Woods), TX, SMU Commit, Offers: SMU, UH, UVA, Iowa State, Tulsa, UTSA, ULM, TxSt, Dartmouth, Yale

Mack’s interim replacement is Granville Eastman, who is originally from Toronto. If Patterson is not retained, I hope that Mack got introduced to Eastman’s Canadian recruiting contacts while at NCCU. I would like to keep the Canadian pipeline open.

Is Jake any relation to John? John had one brother per old Rice media guides. They’re a bit far apart in age for brothers, but it is not a common surname. With the coaching change at SMU, he might be reconsidering.

Jones is shown as a hard commit to SMU, but might also reconsider with the change.

If we are truly in the hunt on any of these, that’s an uptick for our recruiting.

With Chad Morris leaving SMU and no replacement yet named, it would be great to pick of a couple of their guys to come to us. Targeting their class makes great sense. Not all will fit academically, but a whole bunch will

Sounds like a great hire and maybe we can get some top recruits from that area also.
