Just out of curiosity
If the MVC Loses Wichita State and chose to call you guys, would you support moving or staying put?

Question got asked on the main forum.

Go, of course. But I figure that is the longest of shots, and I figure we would be eating bottom food until our recruiting caught up with the rest of the league.

Although the MVC would be good for Little Rock in some ways because it is a basketball centric league, and has one of the best conference tournament events in the nation every year with it's "Arch Madness" in downtown St. Louis, I am not certain we'd be better off there than the Sun Belt. Maybe we would, but there are a lot of aspects to be considered- costs, other sports, fan interest in those schools vs. competing against SBC schools, etc. But even without Wichita State, the MVC would be a step up in basketball league stature.

Of course it is just idle speculation at this point, but if it ever does become a realistic possibility, we have the right AD to anaylize the situation and advise the Chancellor on what the best long term course for Little Rock might be.

RE: Just out of curiosity
No way we would move to the MVC if Wichita State left. They have already lost Creighton. What do they have left that would make the move enticing? Fans in Little Rock are dying for matchups with Drake, Bradley, and Evansville. Players and recruits are dying to travel to cold, snowy places in the winter. Missouri State would likely be knocking on the Sun Belt's door to get out of the MVC. We identify as a "southern" (Sun Belt) school, not a Midwest school. We have established rivalries in the Belt and teams that are close to Little Rock. Only positive I see with a move, is that the MoValley is a basketball league. But, like us, they couldn't get their regular season champion in the NCAA tournament as an at-large. That will be even less likely once Wichita State leaves. MoValley was very enticing, at one point, but not anymore. Maybe there are factors like TV money, that I don't now about, but I doubt the Valley without Creighton and Wichita State is much more attractive to TV than the Belt.

I figure that is purely a rhetorical question. I don't anticipate that in the foreseeable future.

It is purely rhetorical. It was brought up on the main forum, and no one really had a sure answer, so I thought I'd ask.

I suspect our answers might be different if it were more than just rhetorical.

I think there is a very good chance Wichita State leaves and with that the Valley falls from around 12th in RPI to 16 or lower below Sun Belt, MAC and few others.

My guess is the Valley does what every conference trying to stave off death does. They chase markets and grab someone like Illinois-Chicago.

That would be a good choice. McClain has the Flames moving in the right direction.
