RE: Dollars and Sense
Thanks, OLNWFLSH. Nothing surprising in that article, but it's nice to see it all spelled out like like that. Those small handful of big-time sports schools where athletics pay their own way, or almost do, will continue to be OK. But I often wonder how long the rest of the D I schools can continue at the current pace, especially if they want to keep football.

RE: Dollars and Sense
When comparing just the MAC schools (Cincinnati really skews the averages, probably should have separated them out just like OSU), two things stuck out. First the fact that our ticket revenue is from 500,000 to 1,700,000 less than other MAC schools. I guess that's mainly football but I was surprised that it was that large a gap. Secondly we have the highest coach, staff salaries per scholarship. Our coaching salaries seem to be low in the big time sports so unless we pay some of the minor sport coaches way too much (which I doubt) maybe it's time to look at our staff $'s. Are we getting what we are paying for.

On the plus side as I recall our students are paying the least in the MAC. KSU students pay a little over half of what Akron students do for instance.

They need to consider Athletics as being under the 'Advertising' budget.
