Committee has been finalized and Spears is a member. Safe to say that he will not be the next AD.

dang. i wonder if he is going to follow Lyke in a few months. there has to be a reason he isn't in consideration, and it seems unlikely that the deputy wouldn't get an interview for the open position.

Spears will be following Lyke to Pittsburgh. Lyke was only making $250k (only lol that's a lot of dough) and I believe her Pitt contract is for $1M. Chris Spears will go to Pitt as an associate AD and make more than $250k.

RE: New AD Search
Yes, I called someone in Ypsi last week (or the week before) to ask what he had heard and was told that was the word going around campus.
I just didn't want to break the news here. That kind of stuff which isn't on the Internet I won't break.
My 11th commandment: If I can't find it on the Internet it isn't public and I won't post it. If I get a good tip I'll go to the Internet and see if it is out there and public info.
I remember a few occasions say a dozen years ago when some recruiting info got out there too early and caused problems...

RE: New AD Search
Quick follow-up:
I can imagine why Murphy and his staff are very tight lipped on recruiting.
The instance I refer was a Detroit kid EMU and Kent were recruiting (Murphy was at Kent then). I believe the kid silently committed to us but was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to Kent. It got out. The whole situation blew up. The kid went to Kent. The EMU HC was very upset with the local writer for breaking the story and 'costing' him a recruit.
(Loose lips sink ships).
I think folks in the media (e.g., local newspapers, recruiting sites, etc.) have learned to let the RECRUIT go public when he wishes to make his intentions known using social media.

Jeez. Hopefully they've got some good candidates lined up with the vision and ability to push the building plan forward.

RE: New AD Search
Spears said that's a priority in the hiring process. I'm sure they'll keep in mind they need somebody who can market this well and continue to raise the $$$.
Fortunately, many of the people during the leg work will still be around. Dan McLean has been doing excellent work in development, and Tony Orlando and the marketing staff have also been getting season ticket sales up as well. Thankful they'll be here to keep the ball rolling.

RE: New AD Search
BTW. I believe the Regents meet on the 20th (or 19th and 20th) and I assume that they have the facility on their docket.
They have the option, I believe, to meet in executive session.
One thing about boards: Normally when a board is considering something all the i's should be crossed (okay, dotted) and t's crossed. One never brings something to a board for a public vote and have it go down... Bad, bad, bad.
Sometimes things get brought up and tabled, but not a good thing.
We are far enough in the process where the Regents should have a plan and know how each regent feels and would vote.
This isn't like buying a car where you haggle over the last 500 or 1,000 dollars.

Thank goodness Chris Creighton is on the AD hiring committee. Not Also noted Rob Murphy is not. Rob may live a few more seasons with a new AD. That would be a sad day for EMU

You are grabbing at straws (AD search committee membership) now turning an AD search thread into anti-Murphy post.
Next, you'll probably protest EMU having a "Kid's Zone" outside of Rynearson on game days fearing that the word 'zone' will have negative consequences to the kids' psyches... maybe psychologically scarred for life?? Maybe a
"zone phobia"...
And now back to the AD search...

Yes, these take time.
The AD is not like a person working the drive thru windows at McDonalds...

RE: New AD Search
Initial positive thoughts;
1. I love the fact they are using a search firm. Shows how important this search is, willing to spend money and take time.
2. Also, I do like that CC is on the committee. Murphy has recruiting and professional development to focus on, haha.
3. We have some enticing pieces to make this job favorable. Would love another Gene Smith referral.

They also just used a search firm for the new Provost and hired an internal candidate. So, it could go either way.

RE: New AD Search
I have no idea how this one will play out.
The president, himself, is relatively new and may not have the extensive contacts of Dr. Martin.
These events (searches) are always 'dymamic', i.e., impossible to predict who will or will not apply and for what reasons AND how EMU will make its decision.
The biggest pluses I see are if the salary is 250k+ AND the position is V.P./AD. That should be very attractive to a lot of very solid candidates.

This is ABSURD. Why do we not want to hire Christian Spears as the permanent AD? If you're happy with the direction of the department -- and how can you not be, given the success of football, the facilities plan, the improvements in ticket sales and revenue generation, etc. -- why wouldn't you want continuity at the top at this crucial time? And this is someone who has overseen both external and internal affairs, knows the MAC inside and out, has a compliance/academic background, was an interim AD at NIU, etc.
Someone shake down the President and tell him he's about to lose the interim to Pittsburgh, where he's going to follow Heather if he's not offered the AD job, like, this week. Seriously, rumor has it he's interviewing at Pitt this week. If you know the President or Trustees, shake them up on this today and make it happen.

Others on the board have said he's a likely already in at Pitt. I assume Spears doesn't want the AD position here.
