RE: Would You Trade Louisville for Maryland
Would I trade Maryland for Louisville now considering all that's happened? No. Even though Maryland's future prospects are brighter than they were and they would have Under Armour money if they ever achieve excellence in football, they have no where near the commitment to succeeding in the major sports as Louisville. Long term I believe Louisville will be light years more successful and that was something the ACC desperately needed.

Now if I could have had Maryland never leave, I would have chosen that, because of all the perceived instability it caused. Those were hard days to go through not knowing whether the ACC was going to implode or not. Also, Even though losing Maryland didn't cause our current TV contract to be reduced, not having D.C. and Maryland may cost us TV money in the long term. We'll never know if or how much but that is also a consideration.

Hated to see Maryland leave...glad Louisville came on board. I like all the Louisville fans here.

I can't imagine losing DC is much of an issue with UVA and VT also right there. There have to be a ton of Wahoos and Hokies living in the DC metro area. To that end, Maryland was slightly redundant. I still think they were valuable and their loss was not insignificant. However, they were hardly irreplaceable.

You would be correct with this assessment. UVA and VT were well-represented at last year's ACC Tournament in the Verizon Center.

For what it's worth, I think there's tons of overlap in the DMV for UVA, VT and Maryland. I live & work in Fairfax (just outside of DC) and about 1/4 of the cars I see on my daily commute have Maryland plates. And that's on a route that doesn't even take me close to Maryland, there's just a ton of Maryland transplants living in NoVA.

Another point of note: My wife and I get the BTN in our cable subscription as well. It's part of the package that includes most of the sports channels like the ESPN family, FS1 & FS2, NBCSN, and BeIN. The main sports channels we don't get are ESPN's SECN and CBS Sports Network.

No.

I would love to have Maryland back but they chose to leave. I'm not going to judge their reasons. Louisville hasn't done anything wrong and is a positive for the conference.

Depends. Is the ACC going to get some SEC East parts? Then no.

Otherwise? Yes.

If I could choose which conference my school could be in it would be the B1G. My 2nd choice would be the SEC since I am football first. But I am very happy in the ACC.

Wow, you are in a small minority with that preference. To each his own though of course.

Nick Coffey did a Twitter poll on this awhile ago, 7/20/2016:

"If the ACC never came calling and UofL could join another league, hypothetically which would you prefer?"

SEC 47%
B1G 53%
495 votes

Good to note, but that poll is quite different from dbacard's comment. The poll expressly precludes the ACC as an option.

Wow. I think dbaCard should be banned from all ACC boards and be forced to root for Purdue and Rutgers in football...

Most Louisville fans always wanted to be an ACC or SEC team. Most of us are happy now. 07-coffee3

The only thing that would make me happier would be to have VT or Miami as our crossover.

Trade? I would add Maryland and Notre Dame to make a really, really good 16 team conference with great market coverage all along the east coast (and Kentucky, Indiana, Chicago FIFY).

I'd add texas in some form ...

I have heard from a knowledgeable person with extensive contacts with current and former Big 12 members ... In a perfect world for Texas (as described to me by my Big 12 guy), they would want to join the ACC as full members with… wait for it… Notre Dame. ... The new Texas leadership doesn’t have the West Coast preference that their leaders circa 2010 had, so any new deal with the Pac-12 seems to be out. At the same time, the SEC continues to be simply a non-starter for the Longhorns.

just imagine an august ACC with nd & ut ...
mostly southern ...
mostly elite ...
mostly all-around ...
to boot, media markets up the wazoo ...
a really, really good 16-team league ...
unthinkable you say ...
take a cue from the most marvelous sport almighty god ever created: nfl ...

That is a silly question. Louisville makes ACC great again. The question should be, since ACC is so great after adding Louisville, will Maryland want to come back?

no way, Maryland was completely non-competitive in sports...I don't really care what kind of school/market/academics they have, I was glad to see them go

Louisville is actually exciting to play in football....from a longtime Noles Fan
