If you don't want us to win just to get a coach fired, then you are the worst kind of fan. I'm all-aboard the "Murphy should be fired" train, but if he is retained, then I hope he succeeds and takes us to the promised land.

Have you put your name into the hat for the AD vacancy?

I think he's saying he doesn't want to see how Murphy does next year. He wants him fired now.

If that's what he's implying, then fair enough. It just sounded like he doesn't want those events to come true SO Murphy is fired. I apologize if that wasn't the case.

How about this, Murphy leads EMU to the NCAA tournament, and leaves for greener pastures the next year. Then EMU gets a another coach. Win, win, win.

I am trying to take over the "sunshine" title from Steve.

No, I want Murphy fired and out on the street!!! Kidding, I don't wish for anyone to lose their jobs including Brown and White.

I believe EMU missed a good opportunity at evaluating whether or not Brown could lead EMU basketball by demoting Murphy last season and promoting Brown.

Forums are for fans to add logical speculation so why did Brown leave? 1) Did he try to persuade Murphy to move away from a zone and run man to man defense like he did at School Craft and Murphy said no? 2) or is it like some of you speculated in that Brown is a scapegoat? Or 3) Did Brown leave because that is what assistant coaches do before getting axed with the head coach?

Based on my observations, Murphy will fail because a better offense is only 1/3 of his on court problems. There's also 1/3 problems due to his zone defense which the MAC has figured out. I have not seen Murphy make in game adjustments and good coaches do that.

If we could win next season and have Murphy move on that would be a win-win outcome. However, I wouldn't put my money on that scenario....

If you think the lack of offense is only 1/3 of the on-court problems, then I got a beach house in Nebraska to sell you.

It is HIGHLY doubtful Murphy fired his assistant coach because he "tried to persuade him to play man-to-man defense". Your 2-3 zone crusade is showing yet again. If it's anything more than a scapegoat by either Murphy or the (now former) AD to show that they are not satisfied with mediocre results (and that 2017-18 is likely Murphy's last stand), then I'd be shocked.

Assistants are far less important in basketball than they are in football. It may affect recruiting, slightly, but that's about it. And the two new assistants that Murphy brings in will almost certainly offset that recruiting loss. This is Murphy's ship, and it's either going to sink or float on his accord, no matter who is on the bench with him.

Sam, you are showing your lack of basketball knowledge. Assistant coaches are extremely important. Braun brought in assistant coach named Gary Waters from FSU. Waters brought in big time recruits (Boykins, Dial to name a few .....)

We are all merely speculating but for sure good programs have good assitant coaches.....

Luckeyone, you are showing your lack of basketball knowledge (again). Do assistants provide insight? Of course. But you can't compare Mike Brown's impact to someone like, say, Neal Neathery who has far more control over in-game situations. College basketball is driven largely by the head coach. It is very likely that nothing will change with the replacement of assistants, and this is a last gasp for Murphy to save his job.

Good programs have good assistant coaches because they have good head coaches. A Duke assistant gets to learn the ropes from the greatest college basketball coach that ever lived. Are they bright minds themselves? Of course! But they gain experience in learning how to run a program of their own by watching the best in the business do it. Find me one example where a basketball program credited their turnaround to the hiring of a new assistant coach.

Of course, you cite recruiting, which I actually mentioned in my post (if you actually read the whole thing). We will lose Brown and White's recruiting ties, which could be impactful. That's a bit difficult to say. However, it's not as though Murphy won't hire two new assistants who almost certainly have their own pipelines.

As far as assistant coaches and recruiting: TBD.

Trying to predict that requires a great crystal ball or a pipleline to the Almighty.

I have neither.

Especially at the mid-major level. Unless someone on here is closer to the team than they let on, we have virtually no clue what recruiting impact Mike Brown has.

Correct.

To use the buzzword in D.C. these days, any info I have is 'incidental' something I learned by accident.

I went to a high school game two years ago and ran into an asst coach who was recruiting a big man.

That qualifies as 'incidental' or 'coincidental.'

In other words, I don't hardly know who we are recruiting let lone know which asst coach recruits whom.

Matter of fact, we were recruiting a transfer from Towson last March and he was at a h.s. all-star game (in D.C.) I attended (and went onto the court to talk with a h.s. player I know. I did NOT know until afterwards that he (the collegiate player) was considering transferring to EMU.

That was weird. The h.s. player I know is friends with the Towson transfer player. I didn't know that the other kid was a collegiate player. Just thought a friend.

Anything I know comes from Verbalcommits.com or by accident. This staff does not leak recruiting info.

Sam and Luckey, do you guys realize you are both arguing primarily the same thing. With some nuanced exception in which Luckey passionately hates the zone defense like no other in history and thinks it should NEVER EVER be used. Otherwise, you guys really agree.

Blessed are those who support EMU basketball! May they find peace among their brethren!

Sam, you're fabricating statements to support your argument. For example, I didn't say a basketball assistant coach plays a similar role as a Football defensive coordinator.....You made that comparison and assumed that's what I was implying.

My basketball credentials are unsurpassed on this forum. I was a teen age prodigy at 14 and earned an academic scholarship to Duke University where I earned a bachelor's degree in basketball science. Then I went to UCLA and J. Wooden approved my thesis on basketball while I earned and received a Master of Science in basketball. Then I went to North Carolina and earned a PhD in Basketball and while I was there I was a shooting coach for Michael Jordan.

All of these credentials enable me to provide you great insight that is a bit too complicated for you to understand.

I am just kidding around with you, Sammy boy.

Apparently the EMU assistant coaching jobs have been posted on

If I'm EMU I'm looking at Larry DeSimpelare and David Metzendorf!

Jeff McKinney suggestions

Anybody know who these gentlemen are?

Speaking of assistant coaches, it would be nice to adding a local successful lower level head coach and taking a risk by adding someone like Grant Long or Earl Boykins.

I 'know' (with quotes) Larry. He knows me by face and me him.

He was at EMU and is a protege' of Gary Waters. Gary took him to Kent and Larry has followed him.

Brooks out of Ypsilanti Community Schools is a great coach. I don't know what his ultimate aspirations are, but I think he could make a good assistant.
