They bite the bullet and go Indy in football and join Big East in all sports.

That then prompts AAC to add Dayton and VCU.

More likely UConn is pushing the plan. The biggest danger for UConn is that their most important program (basketball) is damaged due to its league. I wouldn't be surprised if they are pushing the 3 team expansion (Wichita, Dayton, VCU). That would be a suitable alternative to the Big East. That places the AAC somewhere between the current A-10 and the Big East. Probably closer to the latter than the former.

UConn. also want UMAss to join as well. Wichita is too far west. They could add UMass for all sports along with Wichita State, Dayton and VCU. Wichita State could go FBS after they spend some time to build the program up. 14 football, and 15 all sports which NAVY is the only one that is football only.

Not sure UConn wants to share a conference with UMass actually. They recruit the hell out of Massachusetts prep basketball and don't really need UMass legitimized any more than they already are. I think UConn's content playing UMass in football as a non-conference opponent.

All reports are that WSU is pretty gung-ho on joining a multi-bid conference in the next couple years, whether it's the American, the A-10, or some other conference (hell, Gonzaga and St Mary's probably have the clout to force the WCC to take them if push comes to shove). My guess is that Wichita has already written off those credits.

That wasn't my point at all.

Yep.

Quote:The only way AAC schools vote down on their admission is if they have to give up guaranteed money in order to get them. This is where the network, ESPN, would have to come in.
All true.

My honest opinion: ESPN is getting this product (AAC) for way below market-value. It would be genuinely weird if they were unwilling to grant a pro-rata increase that would make the product even better.

Meh... to some extent the desperation is both genuine and justifiable. But still: if "desperate flailing" is the downside, that is outweighed (IMHO) by the objectively indisputable fact that WSU makes the league stronger in MBB: Proven success on the court over the long haul. Proven ability/willingness to devote the necessary $$$ to facilities and personnel. Proven ability to put 10-11k fans in the stands for every home game, even while playing an MVC schedule.

Neither. If billybobby is talking about me, then he's got it all wrong. I want no part of Wichita St because they're another mouth to feed off of the pittance we get currently. They add zero dollars to a future TV contract, and the tourney credits constantly bandied about? Well I think this years run proves my point quite nicely, thank you.

I was referring to you. I didn't think you wanted Wichita St to join the AAC. I'm not saying there's anything wrong about not wanting them either. I like many others have pointed out that the articles about Wichita St joining the AAC usually say it's an expansion move to appeal to Uconn. It's an interesting topic. I haven't seen any evidence from Uconn fans that they want (or care) any expansion teams.
Cheers!

If your argument is based on the AAC tv contract - how lucrative can the MVC tv deal really be? (seriously, I don't know)

That's great, but what is WSU bringing to the table financially? They're another mouth to feed on the already pathetic money being paid this conference, and they're not adding any significant (likely zero) dollars to a future contract. So why the panic move?

Uconn wants to be in a P5 conference. Adding WSU does nothing to help them towards that goal. Uconn knows their path to the P5 is football. If they are worried about putting butts in the seats they need to schedule ACC and BE schools. I think they have a new series starting with Syracuse?

It's based on that and that they rarely make deep runs in the tournament. Using this year as an example, they would've moved the number of credits from 3 to 6. Pathetic. We're better off standing pat and staying at 11 moving forward.

Presumably 0.30 or thereabouts of a mouth. They won't be taking a full share of TV money. Presumably zero share of any bowl revenue surplus. Only place they would take a full share would be any profit from conference tournaments and NCAA units.

Sports with multiple opponents per week can pair the trip to Tulsa with the trip to Wichita, it's only 175 miles so you can rent a van and bring a roll of quarters for the tolls or take a slightly longer no toll route.

Brings a pretty consistent top 50 RPI program to the table.
It isn't just about Wichita State going to the Dance, it is about the impact they can have on other AAC schools in getting more favorable seeds as well.

It's all about helping the AAC obtain better seeds and put more teams into the tourney.

Wichita partially offsets some of the weak basketball schools that populate the AAC at the moment.

I think people forget that UConn is still an outlier to the rest of the AAC. Adding UMass. would be helpful as a travel partner to help UConn. to save money for them to upgrade their facilities more to attract a P5 conference.

I don't see why ECU or anyone else would want them to bring football. We already have 12 FB schools with Navy. This would balance out the basketball side of things. In fact, I think we'd probably rather they NOT start football.

agree

Northeastern schools don't cooperate like that. UConn shares the Hartford/Springfield media market with UMass and prefers to be the premier athletics program in the Pioneer Valley.

Stupid that it did not happen last year IMO. Wichita State is a natural fit for the AAC.

Agreed ... but now you're causing the same football vs basketball struggle that sunk the original Big East.

Thinking the big football programs in AAC don't want more than one non-G5 established football school invited.

Not a good comparison. The Big East schools are for the most part private schools who a ton of tradition in basketball. Dayton and Wichita are great programs but they are no Nova.....
