There's an asterisk to Seth.
His dad is former NBAer Popeye Jones.
As a kid Seth hung around the NHLers that played in the same arena that Popeye played in.

That's true but that Metro Stars program is still very strong. It is WAAAAY stronger than many would guess.

Also, there are plenty of former NHLers' kids who pretty much grew up the same way.

Thing is, both Duluth and North Dakota were left out of the Big 10, and then helped found the NCHC to compete against the Big 10. It's worked, and neither team has really taken steps back.

I feel if the Big 10 was serious about taking them, they would've back all of 4 years ago. Only reason they're taking Notre Dame is because Notre Dame realized they didn't like the travel in Hockey East. I think the Big 10 is more likely to go back to Arizona St.

They weren't left out ... the Big Ten was a new from scratch conference, not some continuation of the old WCHA.

They were simply never considered. Same with Notre Dame.

And that was stupid. Hockey fans are a niche crowd, that love traditional opponents. That's why both the Big Ten and Notre Dame agreed to re-establish the long standing relationship that Notre Dame had in the CCHA, and WCHA before that.

Similarly, UND and UMD would be a great benefit to Minnesota and Wisc for attendance. And neither would turn down a Big Ten invite.

Both are great hockey markets, with great arenas and great teams.

By that argument, then the majority of the hockey B1G (Michigan, MSU, OSU and soon to be, ND) would be pushing for their old CCHA mates. In other words, Miami and WMU. Maybe even BGSU.

You cannot find an anymore ideal travel situation in D1 college hockey than between the 4 schools of Mich, MSU, WMU and ND. Also, Miami and OSU a lot of scene as travel partners.

No ... I think the CCHA contingent of Michigan, Mich St, Ohio St, and Notre Dame, now plus a very competitive Penn St program, is plenty enough.

But that only leaves Minn and Wisc from the WCHA. That's leaving a lot on the table.
