(03-20-2017 11:37 PM)Dtownboys Wrote: I was coming from your comment that no one enjoyed playing etc. That wasn't the case at all. I should have been more clear. I am not giving Monte a complete pass and think the team played best when Porter was suspended during the Florida trip. Wilson played and seemed better that trip. When Porter returned, Wilson seemed to change back. I thought Porter was going to turn it around and be a good teammate but that changed. I wonder how things would have gone if Porter was not allowed back. As far as depth, they were real deep at guard coming into the season. Unfortunately, 2 guards were kicked off the team. You can only have so many players and I don't blame depth. Development is probably what you should blame and that is everyone's fault. Unfortunately coaches can't be with players 24/7. Another question I have is that you said guard play was nonexistent but praise German, a guard, as the lone bright spot. He showed his lack of experience at times but showed great play from a guard in glimpses. Hopefully he develops. Highsmith will be only senior next year I think although he has more eligibility so I'm hoping he steps up to be a leader. If he returns that is.
Wow I think you are filling in my thoughts inaccurately, because I said nothing like what you are saying. I basically have echoed your thoughts. You don't agree losing Wilson and Porter put the squeeze on guard play toward the end of the year? I think if you just relax and read what I wrote instead of assuming things you think I am going to say, you would find that I essentially agree with you. Bottom line which is the only important thing, is that the failure of 2016-17 NIU basketball ran through the ENTIRE program, from coaches to players, everything. If anything this year was a slap of cold water how far NIU is from becoming a legit basketball program. I concede I thought NIU basketball was further along, but this year shows that overall, little progress has been made and I guess I would show some congratulations to uiniu on this who I believe had been stating this.

I echo your disappointment but my point is that when two players leave the team, that will leave a void in depth. Can't replace them that late in the season. Makes the coaching job more difficult and Monte can only do so much.

Yep and I agreed with that. Coach Montgomery did recruit them though and ultimately that does go back on him to some degree

Totally agree with that and ultimately he is responsible for the program. I am glad he's getting the opportunity to fix this next season but after that, I'm not sure how much time he'll get.

I saw the Sun Times player of the yr play for Thornton. He had to have the worst body language I have ever seen from a kid that highly touted. No wonder he hasn't gotten any offers. I also heard may be grades/qualified since he transferred like 3 times. I also didn't think he was very good.Nothing more than a DII player at best. I guess you shoot 25 times a game you will avg. 26 pts.
That said, sure he is on NIUs radar.

Markus Keene of CMU and Thomas Wilder of WMU bot declared for the draft. Kids have no concept of how hard it is to make the NBA. Less than 500 guys in the world will be on a NBA team. I'm guessing Maric declares soon. Can you come back to college if not drafted?

As long as you don't hire an agent they can return to school. My guess is that they are just trying to get on NBA team radars and to get some tips/feedback from the professional side. It could actually be a sign that they DO know how hard it is to make it in the NBA. If they hire agents and then go undrafted it might not have been the best idea...but they might as well get professional eyes on them so that they know what to work on. At the very least they'll probably get scouted by some euro team guys as well.

Id love to see Wilder go to the NBA, because many think WMU will win the MAC Next season.

Looks like Darrel Bowie is having a blast at Iowa State. A fan favorite for the cyclones as they're still in this tournament......

What does his stats have to do with anything? The guy obviously enjoyed his year in Ames compared to being in DeKalb.

Porter is a long way from Iowa St. He is heading to Langston Oklahoma and Langston University. NAIA school and the only historically Black College in Oklahoma.

Considering how many minutes he was playing in Division I, seems an odd switch.

Which Division One coach would sign him after seeing Laytwan pouting and walking really slow to the END of the bench when replaced. That might be cool playing street ball but it is not going to work at the Division One level.
