Yes, and apparently he just doesn't fit well, or is not comfortable in their system.

Indeed. We could not guard him. Averaged less than 9 PPG but went off for 23 against us.

He's a junior. I think there is more to it than that.

He only started 14 games. He went off on us playing our style of ball.

The held the holes to 43 lol. I'd hate them too

Nah, nothing to do with it. Awful basketball, IMO and from November-early March, you have to hear how great of a coach Bennett is only to watch his team **** the bed in the NCAAT every year.

Did you like it when Jerry and Brad we in Wilmington and winning? Same style "awful basketball".

It's entirely conceivable that he is transferring BECAUSE of the UNCW game. He definitely got a taste of what 'could be' for him. Perhaps he realized that in order to keep next year from being his last he needed to go somewhere else?

Agree 70's. Plus, there is bound to be a coach who watched him in that game and thought "wow, I could use this kid in my system". He was a very long and athletic 6'5" guard who could hit the 3 and finish on the drive. Somebody will take him, even if for just one year. I could picture him heading to LSU with Will Wade.

And we'll still call Tony Bennett a brilliant coach next year.

RE: Keatts replacement
I was searching the interwebs for news on the search last night. News is a loose term these days, but I am anxious. The only interesting thing that I came across was that we haven't previously discussed was regarding Wes Miller. Tweet just said that there was big money behind Miller, which I assume would come from Eshelman/PPD, but mainly Eshelman. I'll admit, that is an intriguing caveat to Miller's candidacy. I tend to look at it the same way I reflect on Buzz and his partnership with the Jordan brand, although aligning with Eshelman is more significant. Jordan brand partnership was really cool, and I imagine help some on the recruiting trail, it was ancillary to on-court success. For those with a better understanding of the athletic department budget, what would a substantial donation from Eshelman do for the program, first of all, and then secondly for the athletic department?

I understand that winning is the most significant factor when determining the next coach, but that is somewhat intrigued.

Also, I had a dream/nightmare that we announced Donlon as the the HC. I woke up at 5:30 in a panic and checked online to make sure it was just a dream.

Big donations always have an impact. But, could you imagine the outrage if we hired a coach based on a donation? He doesn't play the style of ball we play, and he's only had one year of success in a lower level conference. No way he is considered, we have much better options.

The curiosity sets in because we always talk about the absence of big donors. We don't have a med school, dentistry, law school, etc. Adding a billionaire to the donors is fascinating to me. Not advocating for Miller. I've agreed with your statement that we can do better on this thread, but that is an intriguing wrinkle.

I personally would not have any outrage if Miller were hired. I assume Miller plays a fast-paced offense, similar to Carolina, which is not a complete break from our current system. For sure, it is different, but it isn't the same as considering Caputo. I won't go into the differences, but my point is it isn't an offense that is going to turn players like Bryce, Cacok, Taylor or Whitley away. We can scrap the token press for all that I care. One way or the other, our half-court defense has to improve.

Fred's estimated net worth is roughly 500 million. Point still stands though, and i often wondered why one of the biggest employers in ILM never donated to the Seahawks(at least visibly). He's more interested in competing with the founder of the company i work for and seeing how much he can donate to wine n cheese country.

The press was the key to our success, and it's the key to consistent winning at the mid-major level. William and Mary has a high volume offense and so does the Citadel. Neither have been to the NCAA tournament. If we abandon the press, we're just another mid-major without an identity, hoping to get lucky on the next hire.

VCU has created the template for UNCW. No reason to reinvent the wheel.

while i agree, let's not get carried away. There are many ways you can live at the mid major level, we had a good level of success with a grinding style with Jerry and Brad. And i don't think Gonzaga presses much.

If that were the direction we had gone 3 years ago and been successful, i'd be saying the same thing. Keep doing what we've done. In fact, I was more on board with an Earl Grant style for UNCW as the last hire, but we went in a different direction. If we want to build a program we have got to pick a style of play and stick with it. Otherwise, we're just hoping we get lucky.

Not to mention the fact that they have been playing this style and know how it works. The players there now were basically recruited to play the press style pace . They could play some half court defense and not press 40 minutes I think. Not sure Wes Miller would play that style if hired.

I respectfully disagree, but there's no point in discussing further.

I agree with you about continuity, i don't think switching styles now makes, or would make sense. But when you say "it's the key to winning at the mid major level" it sounds a lot like there is no other way. There is, it just doesn't make much sense for us right now.
