North Dakota or ND ST plus Valpo or Oakland would be the best options. Oakland is a burgeoning hoops program who should go far in the NIT this year and is a large public non football program that would get the MVC exposure in the huge recruiting ground of Metro Detroit. The Valley already has 2 programs in Indiana and 4 in Illinois, grabbing a piece of Metro Detroit would be a big get. ND ST & ND both have MVC worth hoops venues. ND ST might be the better of the 2 since Fargo is a larger city and is already in the MVC football conference.

Valpo does have a loyal fanbase but a bit small unless MVC wants another private U.

Sure, I think WSU would consider the A10 too.

And if there was an article published to that effect, then there would probably be a separate thread on it.

UND over SDSU for hoops? SDSU has the highest ceiling, better attendance, better venue w/ Frost and is also a basketball first school. The women's program has turned into a top 50 program as well. NDSU, UND, and USD might be a toss up, but the Jacks are the school to have for basketball and there really shouldn't be any debate on that.

I do like the idea of Oakland and Valpo to the MVC though. Oakland is clearly on an upward trajectory.!

Again --

no Dakota schools will get even a sniff from the MVC.

Which is good. The Summit is the Dakotas' personal auto-bid machine! 03-thumbsup

A couple of ideas would be Murray State and Belmont. Who else?

http://www.si.com/college-basketball/201...twitter_si

Why would the AAC take a hopes only program they've been through that nightmare before, Wichita does not have the $ to add football back. Wouldn't they be a better fit for the A10 with St Louis U in a neighboring state?

Money is not going to be an issue if we choose to bring football back. I've heard most of what would be needed has essentially already been pledged to cover the costs of getting things going should we make that decision. But our president wants to know where our future home is before any football decisions are made. Be it the AAC or the MVC may dictate the path we take with or without football.

I don't think that Wichita would accept an A10 offer. Better basketball but you're talking about a much larger expense for travel for the other programs. The closest school is SLU which is probably about a 7 hour drive. I have no idea how far it is to Dayton but you're probably looking at flying to every other game. Again, for men's basketball that's not an issue as they charter to all games anyway. But most of the other sports bus to events. The AAC would have some of those games, but those sports could pretty easily bus to Memphis, Tulsa, Dallas, Houston and New Orleans. The last one may be a bit of a stretch but doable.

The AAC is absolutely the top priority and first choice of Wichita should it be an option. Any other conference outside of maybe the MWC would be debated at this point. The A10 also becomes a much larger problem should the BE decide to go to 12 and take SLU.

Wichita I thought valued the AAC for exposure recruiting students in Texas.

A place to go away to college with a really good basketball team.

Valley will take a public school team, to maintain the balance. I would guess UIC, Murray State, UWM, and maybe, UWGB, would be the favorites (with all the Horizon and OVC publics being interested). I can't see UMKC get a sniff. No fans. No history of success.

I hadn't thought of Green Bay. Thanks for answering the original question.

I would love it if the Big East took both UConn and Wichita State. Makes that conference a tank, and adds programs from the right areas with rabid support.

It's just a shame this cluster of what exists now as the Big East hate public schools.

If it's the Big East, I think they'd have to take Dayton rather than WSU. Private, catholic.

UConn is exempted from that due to tradition and history of the old Big East.

I know the affiliation helps, but, I can't help but think that if Dayton were so desired, it would have happened already. And, considering it was St. Louis some time ago who was that next in case, where does Dayton really stand?

But when the Big East was being formed, Xavier was available and a better choice than Dayton. 10 was the target membership number, and was satisfied.

So I don't think that argument ("would've happened already") is valid.

Then and now, Dayton > SLU. But, SLU was the fourth place winner in a pack that also included Dayton.

But where did WSU finish??

I'm sure the Big East will take fully care of due diligence, and consider all options before making any membership decisions.

Leaves---to where?

There is a school of thought on this board that confuses Missouri State with Michigan State or something. Who says CUSA or the Sun Belt wants Missouri State?

Consider how much realignment is driven by a conference *deciding* to expand to improve themselves, compared to how much is driven by conference backfilling to fix a hole created by someone else's expansion.

Or is Missouri State going to leave the Valley to join some other one-bid FCS/nonfootball league? What would be the point of that?

There's also the issue of - who cares if Missouri State leaves?

Missouri State draws below the Valley's average attendance (and has for years). And they haven't been to the NCAA tourney in nearly 20 years.

Sure, they have better attendance than the potential replacements (Valpo, UIC, NKU, Belmont, the Dakota schools), but that's it.

Yeah but the Big East is exactly what it wants to be.

I think Saint Louis would be interested in the Valley if Dayton and VCU leave the A-10.

The A-10 was perfect for SLU when Xavier, Dayton, and Butler were members. But without them, the closest A-10 member is 600 miles away. That's worth it if the quality is better, but the Valley already has higher attendance than the A-10 even before taking the 2 best A-10 programs out of the picture.

MSU is seen as one with a fair amount of potential. They just need a change in leadership and to just commit to doing what is necessary. There's really no reason that MSU shouldn't be near the top of the MVC every year. They have pretty good facilities and fan support. Granted, with the current HC their attendance has continued to decline and the AD or president came out and said that they don't care and they're sticking with the underachieving guy leading the basketball program. So attendance will probably dip again. If they ever get things pointed in the right direction they'll easily average over 8k.

Did I really just defend the Bears? I need a shower.

I would go as far to say that MoState has better basketball and baseball facilities then WSU. The catch is the baseball stadium is shared with a minor league team and is actually across the street from campus and not on it. The basketball facility is nice and new but still needs some finishing touches. Both are pretty stale though as the AD has done a good job of alienating their fans. A change in scenery would do them good and they would do well in the Sun Belt in basketball and baseball. The five of Louisiana, TX State, MoState, stAte, and NMSU would do well to stick together and form a western nucleus to the Belt.
