It's funny, if you read Pack Pride, they're not as convinced that he's off to a great start as we are.

That's because they still think they should be getting Duke/UNC level recruits. They're lucky if they can recruit on par with Louisville/Notre Dame for now. That's not a knock on Keatts, because I believe he'll eventually get the job done if State gives him time. That's a knock on the current, realistic placement in the ACC pecking order for NC State.

Keatts will have an opportunity to compete next year. The top three preseason teams are likely going to be L'ville, Carolina and Duke, but only L'ville is returning the core of it's 2016-17 team. There will be a lot of winnable ACC games next year.

I agree there, but he's going to need a successful year or two before he can truly recruit the best of the best in the country, IMO.

Looks like Murph will be the next staff member to go according to Brian Mull on Twitter.

Per multiple sources, #UNCW strength and conditioning coach Pat Murphy is heading to N.C. State to join Kevin Keatts. Big loss for Hawks.

F'n purging us! Here's a legit question, is the 3 years of success worth the potential set back we will incur by us hemorrhaging people with Keatts?

At 5 times the salary good for him. Murphy paid his dues and deserves a shot to make more money.

Unreal. Now you're questioning whether we should have hired Keatts in the first place knowing what we know now.

Yes, 1,000 times yes it was worth it. I'd do it over again in a heartbeat. We're back to being a legitimate destination for HC's and recruits, when we were an afterthought for the previous 8 years.

We'll have a 1-2 year blip where we take a step back. That's for sure. But we're in a much better place than we were from 2007-2014.

Can't blame him for going for sure, doesn't suck any less for us! He obviously did a good job and seems like a good dude. We chatted a bit in the gym at the hotel in Charleston seems like a genuinely good dude.

I didn't question it, I asked everyone else the question. and you gave a fair answer. Quit being so freaking sensitive.

Can anyone explain why this is a big loss for UNCW?

Only thing I can come close on is maaaaaaybe he's responsible for the transformation Cacock made from his freshman year to last year? Other than that I don't understand the "big loss" either. He's a strength and conditioning coach. I'm not saying that's an easy job, but it's not X's and O's or recruiting.

RE: Keatts to NC State
I think you guys are underestimating their/his value. Look at State without one and the guys they had overweight and out of shape. How good would CaCock have been if he gained 50 pounds? A good S & C coach is super important especially in a system like Keatts's. We have had the benefit of having good S & C coaches for some time with Mayhew then Murphy. Maybe he has someone in waiting to take over, I'm not sure.

RE: Keatts to NC State
The similarities between Anya and CaCock begin and end with the fact that they both play basketball. Carolina and State both recruited overweight players in this year's graduating class. Meeks transformed his body, and Anya did as well, but he completely gave up at some point between his junior and senior seasons. McGrath isn't going to allow an Anya situation any more than Keatts would.

I venture to guess that most of us can't list one tangible effect Murphy had on the team. I knew him a little in college and he's a good guy. I'm not trying to diminish his job, but it's funny that anyone would consider this a "big loss". Our S&C coordinator is the least of our worries.

That's because as long as either of us have followed we have had good S & C coaches. If it wasn't a big deal, Keatts would have just hired someone else. IT makes a difference within a program for sure. Can it be replaced, sure. But for the time being it just creates another hole.

What do you think separates him from the average S&C coach?

I've only been around UNCW athletics for 17 years, Bricks judging by your age id say you are similar or maybe a bit less, We have been spoiled with Mayhew and Murphy.
