It's on Twitter. Unfortunately I don't know how to post pics on this site. It's there for everyone too see. I'm sure Lopesup has it as his home screen on his phone.

RE: GCU / Mejerle Rumors
GCU will probably not be as good next season as they were this season. Losing Russell is going to hurt. Braun is going to need to stay healthy. If he goes down, GCU season is over.

Could just look at my pic here, too. That isn't even the most embarassing pic of Majerle in the interwebs. There was a photo shoot he did for a calendar branded for his defunct "Thunder9" clothing line that is pretty cringe worthy.

Nothing, however, is more embaassing/awesome than the music video he did with Celine Dion. Classic early 90s glory right there.

I love you gleadley. Matter of fact, the GCU posters on this site are top notch knowledgeable basketball fans. Thank you so much for posting these pics and video! I am personally going to make posters of all those stupid pics of Majerle and give them to the student section next year! Thank you so much!

It would be funny. I remember Utah State doing that to Reggie Theus.

I'm not really surprised. There were rumors after last season that UNLV was targeting Majerle after the 27 win season.

the state of Illinois has a budget crisis. U of Illinois is rolling in the cash...

Illinois can spend up to $5/million a year to get the coach they want...

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/col...olumn.html
The reality is a program with tradition that just invested $170 million to renovate its home arena and signed a top-10 national recruiting class will intrigue the most comfortable of college coaches. Whitman left no doubt he can offer a competitive compensation package — and the six-year, $21 million contract he gave football coach Lovie Smith made the promise believable. One source familiar with the Illinois board of trustees discussions said Whitman could have as much as $25 million to spend.

There is really no point to these rumors because Majerle was never going to leave. Illinois athletics gets the Big Ten revenue and that allows that money will not be the reason a coach does not come to Illinois. They could pay $4 million per season for a Head Basketball Coach.

The Illinois state budget crisis does not help attract anyone to a university job at any public university in Illinois. The University of Illinois system has eliminated about 500 jobs during this crisis.
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2...onths.html

Majerle made $30 million as an NBA player and he has businesses and family in Phoenix. Majerle makes $1.5 million at GCU. He is not really hurting financially, so the attraction of Illinois based on money alone does not really make sense. The tradition of Illinois has produced 3 NCAA Tournament appearances in the past 10 seasons. So any coach hired has a rebuilding job in a tough conference at a time when the state is in a two year budget crisis. The job openings at Cal and UW look more attractive than that.

GCU is one of the fastest growing universities in the country and they will be eligible for the NCAA Tourney next season. They have plenty of money. That looks like a good place to be at this time. I find it funny that because Majerle grew up in the Midwest, he would want to go back. He has spent most of his last 30 years in Phoenix. He has called his dream job Head Coach of the Phoenix Suns. He has said that he "loves living in Phoenix." That is why this was a ridiculous rumor from the start.

Majerle makes $1.5 million at GCU.

Where did you get this information? Off the top of your head or do you know someone in Human Resources at GCU because this has never been public before. Please tell me you have a reliable source or your reliability goes out the window.

I got it from here. See below:

http://www.scout.com/sports/college/cfn/...ars-a-year

I couldn't verify it, but I was able to determine that GCU spent $1.949 million on their nine male head coaches in 2015-2016 (see below). Majerle has to be getting at least $1.2 million of that money. Throw in stock options and he could easily be at $1.5 million. That does not include bonuses.

https://ope.ed.gov/athletics/#/institution/details

Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act shows GCU had a basketball budget of $4.3 million in 2015/2016. As a comparison, NMSU had a basketball budget of $3 million in 2015-2016. GCU spent over $400,000 less on operating game day expenses than NMSU, so they had money to spend on coaches. GCU spent more on their assistants last year than NMSU did on their head coaches. GCU spent about 1.44 million on their male assistants in 2015/2016. NMSU spent $1.07 million on their six male head coaches. GCU pays well.

It is easy to see why they would pay Majerle that much money. He brings credibility to the program. He gets them on the map. They are a public company so if he is winning, the stock is winning. It's a different model and GCU does not have to answer to the politicians in Arizona. They answer to the shareholders and based on how the stock is performing, they seem to be pleased.

Even with the bigger basketball budget, NMSU is still out recruiting GCU. NMSU just got another big time commit today.

Considering Majerle isn't the only former professional player who coaches at GCU, I would say he probably makes more around 1 million a year, with bonuses.

In other words then you really don't have any idea what you are talking about. I say Majerle makes $750,000.00 with stock options I'm sure. No way he is making more than Mark Few at Gonzaga at this point in his coaching career.01-wingedeagle

RE: GCU / Mejerle Rumors
dancingNMSUaggie, Do the math. GCU spent $1.949 million on nine male head coaches in 2015-2016. Even if the Baseball Coach was being paid $200,000 per year and the other seven head coaches $100,000 per year (Wrestling, Swimming & Diving, Tennis, Golf, Soccer, Track), that still leaves a $1 million plus for Majerle. As a comparison, Gonzaga spent $2.2 million on their nine males head coaches and Few is being paid $1.374 million. That is about 60% of the money spent on head coaches by Gonzaga. Common sense tells you that Majerle is getting at least $1 million. If you have any of that.

GCU needed a high profile coach to lead the program and that is why Majerle gets paid so much. Majerle could be coaching in the NBA or at a power conference school. He was not going to come cheap. This is not NMSU promoting their talented assistant and paying him $250,000 per year. GCU needed a name and Majerle was a perfect fit. Do you think GCU cares if he is paid more than Few? No, because he is winning and the corporation is making money.

Now, that is a scenario I would believe. Given that the collective age of Suns roster is probably younger than GCU's, it'd be a smooth transition back into the pro game.

Word is that Terry McDonagh reached out to Majerle and mended fences last year sometime. It could pave the way for Majerle to move his offices down the road if/when Earl Watson moves on from Suns.

Yup - and the leaving town issues (kids, restaurants) vanish.
