And we are sure that he has not been extended at any point? It just seems really odd. Nobody lets a coach go into the final year of a contract unless they intend to fire them... and I don't think ODU intends to fire him. Again, it would be really irresponsible for the AD to let this happen, and it may say even more about the lack of commitment to basketball than anything else we have seen to date... or maybe I am wrong and the admin is not as happy with the current situation as I believe they are.

In every contract I've seen at ODU, there are annual rollovers at the beginning of each fiscal year for coaches that can be exercised by the AD. Assuming it's exercised in July, he will have at minimum 2 years remaining and as many as 4 (since they have the option to extend 1 year in each of the last 3 of the deal). No clue if they have extended at all but they announced it when they rolled over Wilder's contract. I would hope they would do the same if done for Jones.

Jones had the option to roll over after each of the first 2 years. Now, Wood has the option to roll over.

Yeah, I noted that. Check the bold.

If there's a chance we might lose a handful anyway, why not schedule as strong as possible?

Can anyone find something saying options were exercised? I can't.

That's a fair concern, particularly for the devoted fan who is true ODU -- first, middle and last. But there are some of us lesser fans who pull for ODU mostly BECAUSE it happens to be a member of our community. I am very pleased that the school is acting accordingly.

I have an acquaintance who works in another office in my building who is a die-hard NSU fan. He and I have very little in common, but we do routinely discuss sports when we run into each other after work hours. In our conversation this evening we were both thrilled by the announced game, and have made a tentative commitment to buy tickets together come December. Small potatoes, I know, but I believe that little things like this are healthy for a community.

I also happen to agree with Cyniclone's point that this should not even be a strategic concern -- if we cannot beat NSU, even at a raucous "neutral" site, we won't be tournament bound anyway.

Go Monarchs! If we don't win, I will likely have some crow to eat on account of my work neighbor.

Perfect post Adopted. We aren't going to the NCAA anyway unless we win CUSA. MTSU wasn't going to the dance it appears if they hadn't won the tourney and they had 30 flipping wins. We aren't going to the NIT unless we win the regular season. No excuse not to play them besides thinking we are better. Same thing many of you complain about UVA and Tech doing to us.

We went to the NIT 2 years ago as the 4th (or maybe 5th) place team.

Had we not lost that game to UTSA that year, we would have received an at-large. It is certainly much more difficult in this conference, but with a good and winning OOC schedule it isn't impossible. While I'm not expecting it, I would behoove JJ to not take it off the table by loading up on cupcakes. Ask Seth Doucheberg.

Exactly. Can't blame the conference if we can't take care of our own business. (If the conference is that bad, why can't we win it?)

Definitely need to beef that up. The Charleston Classic has one tournament team, Dayton, and their 3 leading scorers are seniors. Maybe Bruce Pearl will have a BBQ this summer and Auburn will be good.

As everyone knows, it is all about matchups. If you don't match up well with the conference, you aren't necessarily going to win it even if you are the best team relative to matching up with everyone else in the country. There was no excuse to losing to UTSA that year and the loss was bad enough that it rightfully cost us, but when you have an 11-1 record against a solid OOC schedule, you should be able to take a few lumps or have a 2-week slump with some leeway if you figure it out and come out of the slump. We had that leeway in the CAA. Our OOC resume in 2015 was better than our OOC resume in 2007 that earned an at-large in a field that had 2 less teams (before they started the "first 4"). The 2007 team did beat Georgetown on the road, but also had 4 losses, including to Winthrop and Marist. So that is the complaint about this conference, no leeway at all and 14 teams.

I don't know about that Georgia St. game - I think that would be a new contract.

However, I believe Towson owes us a home game after this past season.

I thought JMU was a guarantee game last season, was it a H/H?

It's a two for one with a guarantee. I'm only assuming we visit next year. It may be later.

Well, looks like Charlotte wont be helping the conference RPI next year. Tough luck for their fans;

Apologies. It's really a shame that a discussion on tangentially related subjects is allowed to occur.
