(03-14-2017 11:06 PM)floodgates Wrote:  I haven't posted on this board in a long, long time. But this thread (and just watching Josh beat Indiana pretty good) prompted me to give my two cents.

I grew up in the Coliseum in the 80s. Know that electricity when Louisville and others came to town and CBS brought their own lights to hang around the perimeter of the court. The ball would go to Keith Lee and the turn-around.... money in the bank as he greased it in the hoop. The deafening "DOOM" roar. Big Jack making David Jensen the "Wendy's Player of the Game" simply because he played in a blow out. Too many memories to type. Just sharing that I know my Tiger history.

But, when I see Tiger fans on this board, seemingly trying to run off another coach, it's mind-boggling. I watch from a distance these days, and yes, the sports fans here in Minnesota know Tubby well, and have some of the same conclusions some of our fans have about his style.... e.g. riding gravy trains.

The culture of Memphis basketball has changed tremendously in the past ten years. No coach in his right mind would have stepped in behind Cal. Josh did and kudos to him, and it didn't work out in the end. But the next chapter is here, and I just hope the culture that developed in Josh's last years doesn't continue, because from what I'm reading, many of the fans are part of the problem.

Just give Tubby a freakin' chance.

Very well said. When he came to Memphis, most fans seemed willing to give Tubby 2-3 years to put his stamp on the program. Next thing you know, many fans have already slammed the window shut. I don't understand that. Too old, doesn't care, riding the gravy train, etc.

Crazy talk, in my opinion.

Maybe he's out trying to buy us another snowcone machine since so many people on here worry about it.

More importantly you claimed Tubby took a "paycut" to come here. I showed real salary data indicating Tubby's salary was almost doubled. And at best Tech would try to match, which still isn't a pay cut.

Don't all our coaches always take a pay cut to come here? Wastnt Pastner offered like 4 million a year at USC? Which caused panic with Shirley and our boosters? I heard Shirley was despondent that we might lose a chance for another apr final four.

Maybe there is no link. But the AD at TT did really like Tubby and he begged him to not do anything (like agree to become our next coach) until he got back to talk with the AD face to face. I think he said something to the effect of he'd give him what he wanted. I don't think the only reason Tubby came here was $, I think he thought he could win here because this is a good job and a proven place you can win. I think he wanted one last run before he hangs it up. Maybe he doesn't get it done here, we shall see. He's now officially on the clock.

Blah, blah, blah...

He was making $1.7 at Tech. Memphis is paying him $15.45 over five years.

Not even remotely close to a pay cut. In no world.

Man, your hate for Tubby makes you sound so stupid. He did not take a pay cut to come here, but he could have made the same or More at Texas Tech, (Where he could have rode out his contract if he wished)

You enjoy acting like a royal *rick. My post didn't deserve the bs blah, blah, blah. My post was correct as to how the ad at TT felt about Tubby and what he would do for him. Tubby either gets it done or he doesn't. If he doesn't I'll give the next guy a fair shake as well. But not you. You will be there to criticize early and often, especially if the next coach isn't named Steve Forbes or Andy Kennedy. It will be great if the next coach is Steve Forbes, because we won't have to read your weekly criticism and cheap shots, because he will be above the fray and off limits.

Please let the next coach be Steve Forbes, please!

Give me some more blah blah blah crap

Nah, just stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Still trying to figure out the whole "he took a pay cut to come to Memphis."

I know I'm a little slick slow, so if you can cipher up the whole $1.7 million gozinta $3.09 million and explain how that is a pay cut, I'd rightly appreciate it.

It's true, sadly.

No genius would ever go to law school and pass the bar if he or she knew the kinds of people that would make up their client base.
