Uh, the fake class thing

Lol what kind of classes do you think Lonzo Ball and Dearon Fox are taking? I doubt they are bookworms.

The NCAA won't and can't do anything about this until they want to actually make real changes to the so called "student athlete". If they were serious they would do the following:

1) No athlete should be admitted to a school that wouldn't otherwise be admitted as a regular student

2) No player should be elegible until they have completed a certain number of credit hours (say 30).

3) There should be at least one outside person employed or contracted by the NCAA that works with each school ensuring athletic departments are complying with NCAA regulations.

Hearing a UK friend and another friend who is a Duke Grad at a party Saturday, get up in arms about UNC's issues was laughable.

The UNC thing is simply not on the same level as a number of other schools where many athletes take softer academic "programs." In the UNC case it was possible, and may have actually happened, that an athlete could play 4 years of football or basketball without ever setting foot inside a classroom or even opening a book and being on campus only for athletic practice and games. To "cap" it off they'd give them a degree when the 4 years was finished.

I have no love lost for the NCAA and how it goes about the imposition of penalties - but if UNC is not hit hard, without at least the forfeiture of all games where actually ineligible athletes took part then I don't know how they impose penalties against any school for academic fraud in regard to athletes. If the UNC thing is ignored then I would suggest all schools simply supply all athletes who wish it, with phantom classes, with phantom professors, in a phantom school, allow them to play for 4 years, and then give them a degree at the end. In fact, they could pay them as well. Oh wait, the NCAA may allow that - and then what would be the difference between college and professional sports, except minor rules differentiation?

So deserving. Good thing they were able to postpone their sanctions.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I completely agree. It just seemed like you were unaware that the class thing happened in the first place. To some degree, im sure it happens everywhere.

UNC took it to a new level. They offered a major where:

1) There were no classes
2) There were no professors
3) There were no books
4) There were no tests
5) There were no papers to write

AND...

Everyone gets a degree.

Everyone from the university president to all of the coaches expressed shock and amazement that this was going on -- for TWENTY years!

As Boeheim, UNC, Louisville, Larry Brown, etc etc etc, have proven time and time again, no one cares if you cheat, so long as you do it well.

While you still can before it is so unceremoniously vacated years down the line (and with no credit given to Gonzaga).

Freedom of movement. Officials calling more grabbing/holding away from the ball. It has helped the game from an offensive standpoint.

There seems to be no repercussions for UNCs cheating. Actually, it seems like they've been rewarded. And folks wonder why interest in sports is waning, especially college.
