BC and Pitt didn't get in either or even make NIT. so i think the premise of the thread is on shaky ground.

it should be a consistent performance thing.

Louisville and ND are also newbies, arent they? They got in. Last year the newbies helped the ACC win more ACC tournie credits in its history and it isnt close. The premise was that the newbies helped the ACC do better in the tourney. ND went to an E8 and SU went to a FF. The performance of those 2 programs helped the ACC reach heights that it has never seen before in the tourney which ups the conference revenue. The OP was on the mark, IMO. But you are entitled to your opinion and its painfully obvious that no one else is going to influence you no matter how much common sense that they try to throw your way. This is America, so your opinion is your freedom to have your opinion.

RE: What A Difference the Newbies Make
thanks for confirming that we have freedom of speech in this country.

it is surprising coming from you given your past threats to ban me for exercising my free speech.

any conference that adds teams is likely to have more teams get in tournament and then have decent runs in the tournament. i'm not disagreeing with fact that depth has been added to the league. but has any newcomer won the title since joining the ACC? I know Duke and UNC have recent titles. i beieve Lville's came before they entered conference.

i will say think some of the Cuse fans on here can't be objective about what i'm saying.

Your right to free speech doesnt mean that you get to call other posters names and get personal with them to the point that other posters contact me to complain about you. And its not just SU fans that are disagreeing with you on this thread, its pretty much fans from the ACC elite bb schools disagreeing with you.

this is the problem with moderaters. they personally attack me, I respond in kind, and then they run to you and you white knight for them. just b/c they are a mob doesn't mean they are right or rational. you just another person with an opinion.

i wouldn't call you a friendly guy at all and your comments above were a personal attack. you obviously taking it personally that somebody doesn't think Cuse's final 4 last year was that impressive. why do you put so much weight on my opinion.

Kap is easily the most rude person that I've seen on the internet and he's your feature poster on here.

I've never met a person yet, that I have had to moderate that thought they should be moderated, which in their minds mean that I'm a bad moderator.

He can't say he didn't ask for it.

Back to the original post now that he can't derail the thread anymore, all the newbies but Pitt really have helped tremendously. Syracuse had the unexpected Final 4 run. Louisville had an Elite 8 berth before hurting the league last year with the self-imposed ban. And you cannot forget Notre Dame, the only team in the country trying to make it three straight Elite 8 appearances.

The date sets up really nice. If you like leaf peeping, salmon fishing, Baseball HoF, Niagara Falls, Gambling, Winery Tours, Golf all very close to Syracuse.

RE: What A Difference the Newbies Make
As a fan of a newbie, who was very happy to compete in the Big East, and carry that banner while we were there (more men's hoops wins than anyone in the league during our time there), I am equally happy to be in the ACC. And while the Big East was a great fit for us, I think the ACC is an even better one, for all our sports.

Hopefully we can earn some credits for the league this month.

The boxing HoF is in Rome (close) and the soccer HoF is in Oneida (a drive, but doable).

There's also a lot of good beer in the region (and city) 03-wink

Middle Ages has a good ale ale, Saranac makes a number of great beers (a great pale ale, a decent IPA, an excellent winter special, and an amazing Irish red), Ithaca brewing makes a great beer (flower power - I think it's an IPA, but I could be wrong), magic hat (vt) has a great apricot pale ale (#9), Blue Point toasted Lager is phenomenal, and southern tier and Brooklyn brewery are both pretty decent.

There are also a number of very small breweries, like paradox brewery if you find yourself in the ADK's.

What A Difference the Newbies Make
Looking at the TV numbers for Louisville v Duke & ND v Duke in the ACC tourney, I think they show value.

Of course this thread was solely about basketball until he brought in football when he didn't have another argument. Only CV would try and argue that winning 4 regular season basketball games (not even 4 in a row) trumps a Final 4 appearance.

F4 appearance>ACC Championship in my book. It shouldn't be...but that is how teams are judged now...all about the NCAAs.

I bet ClemsonVegas didn't even see the Tigers play a basketball game this year.

Not too long ago it wasn't that way. The ACC was much more like the Ivy League in that the Conference Championships carried more weight than competing on a national level.
When playoffs NCAA playoffs started gaining national broadcasts (in all sports) the ACC changed their focus.
The ACC actually changed the way games were officiated so that they could be prepared to play when referees from other leagues called their tournament games. The conference was not used to the thugball that Big East officials allowed.

Do you mean women's basketball?

RE: What A Difference the Newbies Make
CV missed the obvious points that had UVA beat Syracuse the ACC would still enjoy the same credits and that UVA would have Syracuse' spot in the "other than UNC/Duke" representing the ACC in the FF.

Should Clemson have really have made the CFB playoffs as they played/beat Syracuse and Syracuse was not a really good football team. And, shouldn't Clemson give back the trophy, the money, the win over Bama because Syracuse simply was not good in football. (CV logic at its best).

CV can belittle Syracuse and other former Big East teams all he wants but then we can expect him to be intellectually honest and apply his logic to the ACC teams (pre-Big East Raids I & II), especially to Clemson. I have no issue with Clemson and am glad they beat Bama. I support every ACC team (expect when it benefits my Orange) as every victory in any sport, and every championship in any sport raises the stature of the ACC that much more.
