RE: Dambrot Leaving??
The MAC East is taking another hit. Miami's uber talented freshman twins Michael and Marcus Weathers are transferring. That's going to really hurt them. Sounds like Keene is leaving CMU for the draft as well, not sure that's wise. My first assumption was he wouldn't hire an agent and he'd be back but his tweets sound like that's not his plan. Hopefully he's smart enough to wait on hiring an agent until he's comfortable with where he's projected to go. At any rate, the have-nots have even less now. Seems like it will be a busy Spring/Summer for a lot of MAC programs.
Anyone hear if anyone is leaving Kent's yet?

Bottom line is these events are the opening we need to "keep dancing." Let's build off of our run, and stomp on some throats. Retain players, get some great recruits, and win. That's all I am focused on. If the MAC sucks, so be it. Gonzaga and St. Mary's do quite well in a not so great WCC.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
Bad news if everybody else is down we get even less help than normal in MAC play in looking good and any loss looks worse. On the plus side MAC play never really gave us much anyway and if we can hold on or get better it makes it even easier to stand a good chance at getting those wins.

Terry Pluto is saying Stan Heath or Ford might want Akron job. Did not say Akron was looking at them just that they might be fits.

From Verbal Commits twitter feed:
2018 Paint Valley (OH) F Dylan Swingle has received an offer from Duquesne.
Former Akron G Tavian Dunn-Martin is transferring to Duquesne.
2017 First Love Christian (PA) G David Collins has received an offer from Duquesne.
Akron and Duquesne offered 2017 Trotwood-Madison (OH) G Torrey Patton.
2017 Dakota (MI) F/C Jack Ballantyne has received an offer from Duquesne.
I woulda thunk that KD was going to Duquense because he'd be able to get better players there. These guys are all MAC-level recruits
I see Jamari Wheeler un-signed his commitment to Duquense. Can we use a 3-star point guard?

I agree but even the columnist in the AKron Beacon Journal said he might be a candidate. It's just speculation now so they probably haven't thought it through and are forgetting what he did at Kent. Going to Stonybrook which has had some success might have revitalized his reputation. Who knows?

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
Akron is in a bad financial situation. I dont see how they can afford a Heath, Ford or another coach with a lot of experience. I have a few questions
Is Sendy going after any Akron kids looking to transfer?
Is Sendy looking at any Duquense or Akron recruits?
WHY is Akron's athletics budger higher than our budget? We have a much larger enrollment

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
Yea in that one report Akron students pay nearly TWICE the amount Kent State students do in fees for athletics. We do not have twice the student population on just the main campus so that is a big difference in money being used right there and AKron has a lot of debt to pay off so not all of that money is going to things that actually helps right away.

RE: Dambrot Leaving??
I would gladly pay double in fees if it meant that basketball would be MORE THAN competitive each year. Gladly. However, judging by the turnout I've seen in the student section the past three seasons, I am in the minority, no doubt. Oh well, they made the dance in my last semester, so I have no complaints. I'll continue to earmark any funds that I can scrape up for basketball, knowing that every little bit helps. Go Flashes! Please recruit someone soon so I can stop living on verbal commits lol...

Looks like Antino Jackson is officially leaving. I know we've had guys leave when we lost a coach but I never remember this many defections from guys that play heavy minutes. At this point they're losing somewhere around 120 minutes per game from the two seniors and the 3 transfers. That's a lot to replace. At least their new coach will have plenty of scholarships to play with.

That won't matter at this point. There is not a lot out there to choose from unless they can get some 5th year transfers.

As someone said here some of them quit on Dambrot. Akron might be better off in the long term losing these players and starting over. You could sense something was wrong towards the end of the season. Cheatham in particular looked almost bored.

He had a good run at Akron. Best they ever had by far. Never got over the hump like KSU, Ohio, Miami, Ball St. did at their peaks. But his legacy there will be consistency. Usually one of the best 3-4 teams in the conference over his tenure.
I agree but I never understood it. Any individual player only hears it for 4-5 years so why after 10-12 years does that set of players begin to rebel. Is it a variation of "tradition never graduates"? Something like "grumbling never graduates" or does the coach change how he delivers the message. Dictating it instead of explaining why? The exceptions you mention are so successful they are pretty much untouchable with players flocking to play for them. Dambrot wasn't that good.

Antino Jackson leaving the program. I know that many here thought he was overrated but that it is a big loss for Akron. Perhaps some haiku about their sorrows is in order?
