In 2012, why were First Four at-large's a 14 seed?
The First Four matchup in Dayton that year between Iona and Brigham Young was for a 14-seed. How did this happen?

Just a guess: After they put BYU into a First Four game, someone remembered that BYU won't play on Sundays, so they made a last-minute switch in the bracket to put BYU in line to play at both a 1st/2nd round site that played Thursday/Saturday and in a regional that played Thursday/Saturday.

Yep, BYU's Sunday rule was the always a main factor on when they played. NCAA has always accommodated the No Sunday BYU play. I do remember that BYU forfeited some WAC events because they made the finals which were on Sunday's. They also gave up their auto bid to the Fiesta Bowl because it fell on a Sunday in the 70's, back when the WAC winner got the Fiesta. I think Arizona St took their spot.
Cheers!
