You're likely losing your first team all conference forward and replacing him with a freshman or a one year rental? I doubt the team is better next year if DL goes.

It can get better if we see the awesome Markel we saw in some games this season all season long, if Martin develops a jump shot and develops his off hand and KJ develops a reliable 3 point shot.

Guard play can win this league if you have bigs who can defend.

Over the years I've learned to the that once you get to three 'ifs' you are wishing in one hand and shitting in the other.

If DL cones back you have a stud to build around and the Tigers should expect to make the NIT and be a bubble NCAA team. If he leaves then you still have poor guard play to deal with and will be counting on a bunch of freshmen / jucos / grad transfers for depth and production. Not happening.

Yo can't even call this year a rebuilding year because ole Tubs did have any freshmen on the roster to get experience. He just took a year off and set the program back another year because he was lazy.

Oh I agree it is unlikely if Dedric leaves that we get better but it is not impossible

Why? I didn't trust Pastner and you didn't either.

Tubby has to earn the trust of the fan base and the way the last 1/4 of the season went he lost his gold card status.

I don't care what he did 15-20 years ago. I care what he's done at Memphis.

(a) By his own admission did not provide an adequate off season strength and conditioning program for what he KNEW would be a short roster.

(b) Did not bust his ass recruiting to add depth to what he KNEW would be a short roster

© Piled up wins against ****** competition early in the season by over playing his core 4 players to artificially inflate the W-L record.

(d) (a) - © above led to a late season tailspin which, according to the last 10-11 years of data seems to be a hallmark of Tubby's teams.

(e) He completely and totally lost this team at the end of the year. They quit on him and on themselves.

(f) Ended the year with two historic losses the likes of which haven't been seen in Tiger basketball since 1935; over 80 years ago.

Now, tell me again why I should blindly trust Tubby,

I think they will be better if they can find someone that can hit some shots...they don't have anybody that can do that on this team. Woodson would have been a huge help if he had stayed.

They hit them in practice...is what we used to hear.

It takes coaching and balls to hit them in real time.

And you're right with most if not all of what you posted. You're also right that I didn't trust josh. I did give him the first year and I noticed how he dealt with his players in year two. I was certain at that time we were in trouble, but I thought (foolishly on my part) that we would still win because of the players. I was partially correct. We were able to win against the cusa teams and weak competition with regularity. However, in Josh's final three seasons he would begin to show signs that he could get beat by teams that we should be beating. And obviously he almost never beat any top 25 teams (five in seven years). Lastly, players were leaving the program and his recruiting dropped off big time. I said all that to say this----> through all of that I kept paying for my season tickets until year 7. I made a decision that if they wouldn't make a change I would give up my seats. I gave up my seats for year 7 of the Wonder Boy era, but to my credit, I did keep going for his first six seasons. Prior to that, I had a streak of going to games dating back to just before the arrival of the great Keith Lee, which means I sat through the Tic and Johnny show. So, I say all that to say, I will give Tubby all of next season and if it gets ugly, I may bow out again. But for myself, he deserves me to be loyal and give him time just like I did all the coaches prior to him. This in my opinion is how a real fan should be. The good news for you and I and other Tiger fans is Tubby knows he has to fix all of it or he'll finish his career in a crappy way. He now knows the fans aren't going to put up with a crap product.

All of that if fair. It's just a shame that Tubby made decisions that basically wasted this year and set the program back another year. He should have known that in Memphis, basketball is a big deal unlike Minnesota and Texas Tech where he could just **** around and no one would mind all that much.

Unless he resigns he's got 3 more years. The way he's doing things it looks like it may very well be his 4th year before he can put an NCAA tournament team on the floor, if then.

Too bad for Memphis fans.......

It's cool man.

I forgot to add in my long post that I went and got my old seats back when I saw josh was gone. I got my exact seats. Which means nobody came to get my seats. Look at the money I saved 03-lmfao And another point, Tubby can't be here long since he's 65, right?

So from solidly out of the NIT to maybe an NIT bubble team or 5-6 NIT SEED?

You'd be good with that?

If DL goes then I see a worse year but you see some improvement. Some (as opposed to vast) improvement would be to get into the NIT.

That's what I got from your post and you seemed ok with that.

Trust me. If DL goes pro this team will struggle to get to 16-18 wins even with the **** schedule they will be playing.

I'm not ready to say that. We have to wait to see how the roster is filled out. Also you have to factor in the progression of players like Jeremiah and KJ. I also think Jamal Johnson has a chance to be really good. Maybe not dominate but contribute. Lastly, Azab and Keon are two players that could be interesting pieces too.

And who might that be, Daddy?

Really?

OK, I'll spell it out for you. Remove anything from the team that is named Lawson.

DL is going to play in Serbia or Minot SD next year and ride a bus to games. Will be a loss to the team, but it is what it is.

KJ is just an over-rated, out of control player with a marginal BB IQ. He can make some plays, hits free throws, but does some plain stupid stuff that demonstrates he is trying to play above his basic skill level.

Daddy is just plain and simple a disruption to the coaching dynamics of the staff. Tubby hinted at it in the post game. He said he would have handled some things different.

Just clean house, rebuild and let's see where this train goes.

OK. Plan 1

Keep Tubby and his son for future hire.
Get rid of every Lawson.
How about the other Memphis players?

Is there a Plan 2?

Sorry, I may have come across sounding like DL leaving would be a reason for optimism. I didn't mean that. What I was trying to convey was that, even if he DOES leave, I'd still be cautiously optimistic that the Tigers could have a good team next year.

That's what I got from your post and you seemed ok with that.

Trust me. If DL goes pro this team will struggle to get to 16-18 wins even with the **** schedule they will be playing.

Sorry, I may have come across sounding like DL leaving would be a reason for optimism. I didn't mean that. What I was trying to convey was that, even if he DOES leave, I'd still be cautiously optimistic that the Tigers could have a good team next year.

I'm with you. We sometimes forget all the other teams are losing players too. Even if we lose our best player, if he's the only one, we lose less than most other teams losing 2-3 starters.

I don't believe Tubby is coasting or that he's lost his passion for coaching. He's never been a big rah-rah guy. Doesn't mean he doesn't care. I'm all for giving him a year or two grace period to analyze what he has, fix it, and move forward.

So from solidly out of the NIT to maybe an NIT bubble team or 5-6 NIT SEED?

You'd be good with that?

If DL leaves they will have no experience at the 4-5 spots. None. They will have Martin back as an average point guard backed up by Clergeot and Markel back at the 2. Jimario is a really skinny 3-4 and KJ is a 3.

I guess you build a team around KJ and hope the recruiting services really missed on some of the incoming Freshmen? Maybe mix in a juco and a grad transfer hope the chemistry just magically happens.

Tubby isn't getting Cal, Self, Williams freshmen; he's getting 2 year projects. The guys he's brining in will be about like Clergeot when it comes to first year contribution. They may be really good by their junior year but that doesn't help much if any for next season......

I guess it all depends on your definition of good. Maybe make the NIT? Just curious as to what would give you optimism for next year without DL on the team? I don't see anyone who would come close to replacing the combined productivity of the Lawsons.......

Get me a big who can rebound and defend and a guard who can create and one of the other guys improve their shot and we will be better next year that this year with Lawson. Have that and Lawson returns and we can be in the tourney

What do you suggest? Should we fire him based on a single season? What kind of message does that send to potential new hires? Screw up one season and you're out of here?

I no more appreciated this season than anyone else but damn give the man a chance. For me it all comes down to supporting the program which is larger than any single individual including the current coach. Give him the same time any other hire would get and barring a Tic Price magnitude event let him coach. If he can't get it done by the end of year three then look to replace him.

There were few coaches waiting in the wings for his job and fewer still who one might safely assume would get us back to any semblance of relevance in one or two seasons.
