RE: THESE ARE JOSH PASTNER'S PLAYERS - GIVE TUBBY SOME TIME
When Tubby took this job, in my opinion he thought the job would be the easiest of his career. After coaching Kentucky in the SEC, Minnesota in the Big 10, and TTU in the Big XII to coach a "mid major" school like Memphis in a "mid major" conference like the American would be easy peasey. Low expectations against middling teams.

I think he got woke up. I don't think he realized how passionate this fanbase is. He may be questioning his decision to come here.

Interesting.

Not saying "Pastner" ever did. You just gotta play the gray areas. 99% of big time programs do. Tubby wants to be the 1%.

That will be an interesting approach in Memphis.

I'm sure Easterwood has thoughts about recruiting Memphis kids.

We could've hired Steve forbes for 900k a year. He'd have busted his a$$ to make it work and bring in talent. And if he couldn't get it done after year 3 we could've easily walked away. We saddles ourself with another albatross contract of a guy who has not really been good and has coasted into NCAA tournament because of power conference bias.

I never wanted him and always thought he was a bad hire. Feel free to go back and look at my posts that night it was being reported

Steve Forbes, are you serious? Another CJP for less pay. Realistically, I didn't want to get another big name like Marshall or Buzz. Those guys would have done us the same way Cal did us. Proven success = P5 success. Perhaps Tubby wasn't the ideal coach. Maybe he lost his drive at those other schools but maybe he chose us over TT bcuz he felt he could win here. I'm just willing to see what he does as opposed to rationalizing what he does, you dig? Lol

(03-10-2017 09:38 PM)MemphisTigerPawr Wrote:  I'm not trying to pile on, and may take some heat for this post but I just cant get on the Tubster Express. Sorry but I don't think patience with Tubby isn't going to change things. The bottom appears about ready to fall out of Tiger basketball as long as Tubby keeps running on fumes..

Tubby appears to be on cruise control, no fire, no motivation, minimal coaching, minimal recruiting, nepotism, worst defeats in modern history where we give minimal effort. (All a reflection of the coach) This is looking like it may wind up as the worst BB coaching hire in recent memory at Memphis.

Meanwhile we are paying a Coach, his son and his buddies NBA money. Tubby should be delivering so much more. Very, very disappointed after 40+ years of being a die hard Tiger fan, and, as bad as Pastner was, he at least had passion. Tubby appears better suited at this point in life for playing dominoes or checkers. (Not that there's anything wrong with that)

I can't remember feeling more dismal about a Tiger team at the end of a season than I do with this years team and staff. I feel pretty safe in saying Tubby has lost his mojo. We lost our last two games by 70+ points. No excuses for those type defeats back to back to close a season.

If I'm wrong or short sighted I do apologize. I like Tubby and had hoped he would hit the ground here running, but it looks like he just hit the ground. I'm very, very disappointed now and just don't think he has the fire anymore.

Hopefully I'm wrong, if so I apologize to Coach Smith and his backers now. I really hope I'm wrong but it looks more like we hired Snuffy Smith. (I know its tacky, sorry)

The only ground he hit was at Southwind-----LOL the SNUFFY line.

Hiring Cyprien for the Bartons was as gray area as it gets.

No pun intended, but the 1% recruiting s*** won't work in Memphis. I wasn't speaking strictly; just never pay for play.

Josh tried to 1% coach. Like we had Duke or GEORGIA TECH guys. We don't -we have Memphis guys. For the most part, They don't know the type of discipline that Josh wanted to instill. Worked with some kids, didn't with others.

Pastner was no choir boy. Ask the AAU coaches for Will Barton & Joe Jackson

It seems like the passion of the fanbase has turned sour in the last ten or fifteen years, but I may just be forgetting the bad stuff from further back. I agree with you, though. I think our last three coaches, at least, have probably questioned the wisdom of taking the job somewhere along the way. Under the circumstances, it just happened to Tubby earlier than it probably did the others.

That's why I get a kick out of the Ole Miss football stuff. You have an Auburn enrollee telling the NCAA (for immunity, of course) that OM offered him $10k...and he still went to Auburn.

We need Wikileaks to look at basketball recruiting. That would be a lot more interesting than what lies some politician told.

Any coach in CBB that doesn't know that MEMPHIS has a rabid fan base ---is a coach that has been just slow rolling his entire career . Heck most fans that don't get paid millions for actually knowing CBB -know the rabid fan schools. I would think knowing the competition would be part of the job. He must have been busy playing golf all these years to have noticed.
