Looks like it's NCAA or bust next year. He won't coach on an expiring deal in 19/20. The only change I see happening is letting Dennis Wolff go.

RE: The official Jeff jones hot seat thread
The good: We held the Toppers to 59 points. Excellent defense. The zone defenses and multiple switching of defenses was a solid coaching effort that should be recognized.
The bad: Call it what you will -- on the harsh side it's "choking." Easing off a little it's "failing to rise to the occasion." This is a team that shot 37% from behind the arc this year going into the the WKU game. Against the Toppers they shot 7.7%. We've all been really happy with the improved free throw shooting this year. They shot 70% going into this game. Against the Toppers, they shot 50%.
This loss was not on JJ. It was on the team. Period. He gave them a solid game plan that they just failed to execute on the offensive end of the court.

I think most of us are OK with this. 6 years is more than enough time to get it done, and his prize recruits will be sophomores and should be ready to contribute something.
If we aren't dancing next year, it's time for a change.

Don't give me that garbage. He went for a Defensive mindset when we got in foul trouble in the first half. Guess what, scoring 22 points a half isn't going to win any games. Put some offensive weapons in there and get somebody in that can score. Jeff is the reason we lost Talley, and he's the reason Porter got technical after technical. No discipline, no heart. This falls on the coach.
Tired of mediocrity and I'm tired of Jones.

When JJ's teams continually "fail to rise to the occasion", you might start to wonder if he has something to do with that?

Agreed. I know some have been ready for a while but I dont think even the most ardent JJ supporters could argue with that being the time to change directions if he doesn't get it done.

Would have been nice to have some players a bit developed so when Randy goes 0fer an d BJ gets his nose bashed in, we can have others to fill the role. But that wasn't an option.

better to take our medicine now than to keep hoping "next year" he figures it out.
Real coaches do not take nearly this long to make an impact.
If you have the money for the buyout, feel free to call up Wood and demand he let Jones go. Money talks......... and since I doubt you have the money to do so, stop with the “we need to take our medicine now” bull.
Mind naming those coaches who inherited a crappy program and turned it into a NCAA tourney team quickly. And don’t name any P5 teams, because if anything was evident yesterday (during the selection show) if you’re a P5 you can be hot garbage and still get in to the dance

If I'm not mistaken, his buyout is $300,000. Not exactly as high as one might think.

Marshall’s record since 12-13
2012-13: 13-19 (6-10 CUSA)
2013-14: 11-22 (4-12 CUSA) hired in April 14
2014-15: 11-21 (7-11 CUSA)
2015-16: 17-16 (12-6 CUSA)
2016-17: 20-15 (10-8 CUSA)
2017-18: 24-10 (13-5 CUSA)
If they hadn’t won the CUSA tourney (and I honestly dont believe that they would have beat MTSU in the semis) would you still be saying that he made this program a NCAA a tourney contender?

I think arguing in favor of D’Antoni is exactly what is wrong with our situation and the system. If the only measure of success is NCAA Tournament bids, then the only thing in our league that matters is 3 or 4 days in March is some ridiculous location. That seems like a terrible way to measure success.
By all accounts, we had a better season and a better team than Marshall. They got a good draw in the tournament and held on. Good for them. MTSU has a schedule that many of us want, dominated the league for most of the season, lost in OT to Southern Miss and end up with a 3 seed in the NIT. Oh, and they are likely to lose their coach because of it.
I’m not sure I have the answer. I am sure the answer is much more complicated than any of us think. All I know is I’m disappointed in the result of the season and the system sucks.

I'll take it.
They beat MTSU twice and WKU in the finals, something that we failed to do in 4 tries.

Did you see our OOC schedule? We knew back in June that 3 days in March would be all that mattered.
Yeah, Marshall got a good draw. But they beat WKU, which we again failed to do in 3 tries. They got it done when it counted.

Of course we knew at an at-large wasn’t going to happen with our schedule, but if you think a better schedule is going to get us an at-large, Kermit Davis is going to beg to differ.

We also beat WKU up pretty good before Marshall played them. They lost 2 of the 3 immediate games after playing us this year. The other game was against Charlotte.
