3rd time in 4 years we have been bounced in the quarterfinals of the CUSA tourney.


Still haven't recruited a single freshman Big man in 4 years.

NCAA tourney next year or wood and Jeff need to GTFO.

I dont post here anymore...but im curious to know...does anyone here actually think that with what we have returning, what we have coming in, and with our coaching that we are actually going to be an ncaa tournament caliber team? i just dont see it

That's the expectation if not the reality.

At the very least maybe we could once again move our program ahead of W&M and Marshall.

I don't think we will be an NCAA team next year either, which is why I want him gone now.

I also know he isn't going anywhere so I'm willing to give him one more year to dig his own grave.

He isn't good enough. He wasn't when he was hired and he isn't now.

He and wood also lied about playing an exciting uptempo brand of basketball but that's a whole other can of worms.

Zero regular season titles, zero tourney championships and zero NCAA tourneys in 5 years will be more than enough ammunition to make a change.

I just hope wood is shown the door with him for the good of the program.

300+ teams in college basketball and we are in the mid 100's.

Pretty much the definition of mediocrity in year 4.

Sadly that's more dangerous than just flat out sucking because if he flat out sucked wood would have no excuse.

With out mediocrity he can point to extremely inflated win totals against horrendous cusa basketball teams as a sign that "we aren't that bad".

its a tough pill to swallow for me when i look back to the years when i was a student, the early 2000s and the trajectory that our program would head..... and now here we are. heck, we went to what 4 ncaa tournaments in 6 years back then? i know we had the one disaster year under blaine but you would think that even a half wit AD could have kept this program moving in the right direction

One of the best mid-major home arenas in the country, a history of success, a hot bed of talent right in our back yard, a brand new practice facility being built, number one in home attendance in cusa........

You'd think it'd be idiot proof keeping us at a high level but wood had to hire the one guy who can't get us to the NCAA tourney.

No. Idiot proof is where we are right now. Top 3 or 4 in the conference and 150 in the nation. It takes a little more to actually be good.

I've been following ODU basketball since the mid-1970's. Losses, like the one tonight, devastate me as much as anyone. But who is the great messiah who is going to take us to heights we haven't seen before? In the four decades I have watched ODU hoops I think we've been ranked in the Top 20 only once. Once. Think about it. Have we ever recruited a 4-5 star player since the Paul Webb days? Someone mentioned we need to return to relevance. What relevance? Getting on SportsCenter when Billy Mann beats DePaul at the buzzer? This isn't about Jones. It's about the way we talk here. As if we are the Gonzaga of the east and we've suddenly lost our way. Our claim to fame is occasionally winning our first round NCAA Tournament game and then flaming out in the second. That is relevancy? I don't give a rats ass if Jones is fired. Someone tell me why (and it sickens me to bring this up) a VCU or Mason can go to the Final Four and in four decades we haven't even come close to such heights. Yes, I am pissed about tonight and venting...

That's what I'm saying.

Anyone could have come in and made us a top 125 team again. Literally anyone.

An even half way decent coach would have us trending upwards in year 4 instead of a SIGNIFICANT downtrend.

This season was appalling from start to finish.

Because we've had two boring ass cornbread coached for the last 17 damn years.

Vcu has fired 3 young up and coming assistants in a row and it has paid off in spades.

Uncw hired a young assistant and it paid off big time.

We hired a crappy patriot league coach and got what we paid for.

Also, what happened in the 70's and 80's means nothing, this is not the same odu.

We are no longer a commuter school playing in the scope.

We have the ted, a crown jewel of mid major sporting arenas, a dirt easy conference to win (unlike the metro or caa) and far more resources than we've ever had before.

We SHOULD be progressing as a program just like vcu has, the problem is we aren't and that falls on wood selig.

Razor, I say this respectfully, but my point is: other than having a nice home arena, what leads anyone to think we should be progressing? What are we building on? The fact the Ted is great and we earn an NCAA invite every five years? We are no better today than when we were a 'commuter school' back in the 70's (when I was a student there). Hell, I believe our best team was the Valentine/West/McAdoo team some 40 years ago when we played at Scope. Tell me why, in four decades, not once have we recruited a player who truly got the fan base excited? It pains me to say this, but regardless of Jones, Taylor, Capel, Purnell, Young, or anyone else, maybe we need a reality check? We didn't dominate the Sun Belt. Didn't dominate the CAA. And we should as hell aren't dominating CUSA. Yet, we talk as if we had. That said, I agree with you. We need a coach who gets this program moving in the right direction, otherwise there is a fine line between relevancy and irrelevancy.

We're not dominating because we haven't had a game changing coach, simple as that.

Jeff capel came from a small school to be our coach. Same with Blaine, same with Jeff.

We need to take a chance on a top assistant at a big time program like vcu and uncw both did in order to have it pay off and reach that "next level".

Playing it safe if why we are where we are.

I am in 100% agreement concerning the removal of both Selig and Jones. But what is said here is just so much blather. Unless ODAF contributions go down and ticket sales drop, nothing at all will change. If we keep buying the crap they are selling then it is our fault!
