New stadium = big games
Saw just now that Colorado St has a home game with Arkansas in 2018. Arkansas is very hard to get at your place. The Arky AD said something about Colorado St's "beautiful new stadium". Looking further, Colorado St has Oregon St, Arizona, Texas Tech, Colorado and Vanderbilt (twice) coming to town in the years to come. Their new OCS seems to be paying off as CSU never used to get these big OOC home games.
Cheers!

Michigan cancelled on Arkansas, and they could not find a P5 to replace them who could fill the dates, so they settled on Colorado State, and the SEC gave them an OK on that.

Blame Jim Harbaugh

But Michigan cancelled in order to schedule Notre Dame, so ultimately it goes back to everything wrong with college football being the fault of the Fighting Irish, right? 01-wingedeagle 03-shhhh

Judging by my Facebook feed, my Hog fan friends are not pleased and asking why they would travel to Fort Collins instead of scheduling the other FBS in the state or one of the in-state FCS.

They don't know that the Arkansas constitution forbids Fayetteville from scheduling in-state teams?

FYI:

below is a link to a large jpg of construction for CO State's new football stadium. (not sure when it was taken)

Didn't want to put img tags on it, because it's so big.

Very similar in design to the new-ish U of Minn football stadium, that opened in 2009.

Houston's new stadium has allowed for the following home and homes:

Louisville
Vanderbilt
Texas Tech (twice)
Arizona
Kansas

It helps.

Yep. Houston and Colorado St invested in new OCS and almost immediately they've gotten great games. UCF as well when they built theirs including hosting Texas the first year it opened. Imagine if SDSU built an OCS? Temple? There no way to avoid it, you have to have your own OCS if you want big opponents to come to town regularly. It's great for your college/community/fans and a money maker.

Cheers!

P.S. SDSU may not even survive if they don't invest in an OCS. It's critical now to have an OCS; no getting around it.

RE: New stadium = big games
Seems like teams like to open up their new stadium or arena with a big name to generate some excitement, like CSU for this game or Miami with Kentucky when Millett Hall opened up in the sixties. If that fails, it teams usually try and buy as easy of a game as possible to sure make the stadium opens up with a win if they can't get a notable opponent.

Wonder how many of them will go to the game?

Except that the CSU stadium opens this coming season and Abilene Christian will be the first home game on Sept 9th.

CSU stadium

"Construction on the new stadium began in the fall of 2015 and is scheduled to be completed on-time in the summer of 2017. The first football game, Colorado State vs. Abilene Christian, is scheduled for Sept. 9, 2017."

Yeah, Minnesota opened TCF with Air Force. Not exactly a huge name opponent, but they eeked out the win. You just never knew what you'd get with Tim Brewster ... though after 2009 there was hope that a corner had been turned. Haha ... that was wishful thinking.

Minnesota is a betting mans nightmare. One week they'll beat Iowa, on another lose to New Mexico St. "you just never what your going to get" is the perfect way to put it.
Cheers!
