What team are you talking about? Texas AM just went to the sweet 16 last year and TCU just hired Jamie Dixon who had TCU on the bubble and looks like they will go to the NIT. The future is bright for the frogs.
I'm talking about A&M
Last year was an anomoly thanks to overwhelming senior talent (many of whom transferred in) and former assistant coach Rick Stansbury doing a lot of the real head coaching job before he left for the HC job at WKU.
This year is an average Billy Kennedy year of underachieving, squandering talent, inexplicable coaching decisions and failing to make the Tournament like he has 6 of his 7 years here

JTIII has a job for life. His family's name is etched in stone on every single athletic complex. The only solution for both sides would be if he would want to leave for another program and build something himself.
Georgetown is in a tough position, PR-wise. I don't envy them.

That's a public passive-aggressive way of putting it on JT3 that he should think about his future endeavors if there ever was.

And a win vs Northern Iowa in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament that might have been the the sleaziest referee hit job I've ever witnessed.
Cheers!

So enthusiastic, MSU President Cliff Smart fired a shot at the fan base's disintegrating attendance with "I'd encourage you to hang around but if you want to drop out for a year, we'll welcome you back when we're heading to the NCAA tournament next March".
And attendance has dropped from 7,500 a game to around 4,000. Real smart move by the president and athletic department to keep the loser especially when private funds were available. Pick your seat at JQH Arena next year.
Dear god....
Talk about throwing your athletic future out the window.
Yep. The fan base is pissed. We had the buyout raised, pretty much had the next coach picked out (Steve Forbes or Steve Woodberry), president vetoed it. Then he shoots his mouth off in the press conference. It's a shame he has wrecked the bell cow program. Academically he has the university on a roll. Crazy how that side has just blown up along with facilities and enrollment.
School leaders need to stop talking down to and about their students, fans, and alumni, too. They seem to forget how their bread is buttered.
No kidding. The Bears haven't been to the Dance since 1999. Guy didn't get it done is 6 years and 7 is the charm?
Reminds me of the great Dickey Nutt disaster at AState.
AState had gone nearly two decades being in the top third of the nation in hoops attendance.
Fans were fed up with Nutt and his 150-137 record (yes brother of Houston) but a few influential people who were buddies of Nutt argued that was just a few cranks who weren't buying tickets.
As a "compromise" Dickey Boy gets a three year contract but his salary is cut.
Attendance fell off the map for the 2005-06 season and has sucked until late this season. Dickey went 39-50 in the three "bonus" seasons. After the first bonus season AD made calls to raise money to buy out Nutt and got such a firey reception (one donor who got a call said he told the AD, you could have fired him for free last year, you work it out).
My parents who had held season tickets for 20 years gave them up after the first year of the extension. My dad said didn't seem like the school was trying so why would he go to the games.
Really dangerous stuff.
As a friend in intercollegiate athletics says, when the mob in parking lot wants results you better give it to them before they aren't a mob any more.

Didn't realize that. Men's hoops is their most popular sport and they haven't been to the NCAAs in almost 20 years? Since Alford was coaching there? How have they kept the boosters at bay this long?

First, nobody has a job for life. JT3 can and will get fired if he doesn't turn it around at some point.
Second, Thompson hasn't been the same since the hand-check rule was changed 4 years ago. He and his father won a lot of games by mugging people. Can't do that anymore, and JT3 hasn't adjusted. If you look at Pomeroy, the rate his teams put opponents on the free throw line skyrocketed 4 years ago.

Drives us all nutty. Highest ever RPI team never to make the tournament. First MVC team to win regular season championship in like 15 years and not get a bid. Current coach has dirty photos of the president because we have fired other coaches in both basketball programs with much more success. It's a shame our current president has took a dump on the men's basketball program, because he has done wonderful things for the academics, facilities, state wide brand, and campus growth.

If Wiki can be believed, that 1999 appearance is their only one ever in D-I.

Kellogg should be getting his papers from Umass shortly as well. The AD has been very tight lipped, but the guy absolutely has to go.

It's definitely time for Kellogg to go. He's had an extra long leash because he's a local guy who played at UMass. Everybody wanted it to work out because UMass wouldn't have been a stepping stone job for him, but he can't coach.
