It's been an issue they have been worried about since before the project started. No one has been able to give a difinitive answer. Thus the very good idea to keep people from working out under 200,000 lbs of crane.

FC Cincinnati didn't have the same concerns - apparently they have converted the vacated weight room space into a huge clubhouse with an espresso and wine and cheese bar. Its nice. Or so I am told.

Why is the bubble back up, when it usually comes down for the warmer spring and summer months? Turns out, there is a good reason. It is related to the ongoing $87 million renovation of the nearby Fifth Third Arena, the home of UC men's basketball, women's basketball and women's volleyball.

"We had an unforeseen construction issue," UC associate athletic director Ryan Koslen said. "There's going to be a large crane built on the floor of Fifth Third Arena for the next 10 months or so. Due to the weight room being directly under the arena floor where the crane will be located, the project team was concerned about a potential safety issue. So, the weight room was closed down over spring break and now there are all kinds of supports bracing the floor and the only accessible areas are the offices."

10 months? I heard last March they were supposed to be out of the weight room for up to 18 months. Already had to move student health to a trailer. At any rate, glad they found a solution, although I was under the impression the bubble is considered a temporary structure by the state, so it can only be up for a certain period of time a year. Wonder how they're working around that one.

I know the armory is basically a mess, but it couldn't become a temporary area for a weight room?

With all of the structural support down there they had to make room for the TVs and video support equipment, so they notched out a little extra space in hallways.

If you look at the previous 5/3 construction updates from weeks ago, there is footage of the weight rooms underneath the court with all of the equipment removed and additional bracing to support the crane. I believe it was specifically mentioned in the video that the weight rooms would be relocated during construction.

I don't think this is breaking news. Just yet another case of the local fishwrap stumbling upon a story that had already run its course.

Not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that our construction manager is rocking a ponytail.

What is the video board still doing there?

Earlier in the thread someone said it is being reused. Which is fine I guess as long as it is updated. If it doesn't have a really high resolution screen and ribbon above, it will look dated relative to the rest of the facility. I'm going to be optimistic and presume it will be updated.

I know a lot of people dislike holy grail since they left Clifton but I love that table and the fact that many of my U.K. Friends will have to stare at it as they drink before and after reds games.

Good point! I couldn't help but notice the large OSU and UK flags in the background of that photo. I know a sports bar--especially at The Banks has to cater to all area fans. But I also believe it's incumbent upon UC to make sure the Bearcats are well represented in these venues. I think we've come a long way in that regard but UC should never be under-represented on our home turf: Uptown, Downtown, the 'burbs and even Northern Kentucky.

I'm fine with them catering to all of the schools in the area. Also, the old Grail was a dump. They were genius to move where they did, when they did.
