Maybe they can preserve that and showcase it in the new arena as an historical artifact, so when people are going through the arena in 2030, they can see the technology the arena had in 1989 ...and in 2017 unfortunately

Great - it's only a matter of time before the anti-FC Cincinnati faction starts spreading rumors about how the old 5/3 Arena center court display is being repurposed by "Prince Lindner" as the "new" scoreboard at Nippert to come in the near future.

Yeah I heard they were going to make a "cutout" in section 103 so FC Cincinnati can get in a little footwork during those long Winter months...

I saw the contract, but I wasn't in the room during the verbal agreements, so I can SAFELY assume that this is all true.

It looks like almost everything is being ripped out except the foundation. Makes me wonder if they should have just taken that out too and started over.

It's pretty extensive. I'd say it's just the roof, the 4 outer walls and the weight rooms etc underneath in basement, but they pulled the mechanicals out of the ceiling and are blowing out the concourses, too. Roof, north and south walls and basement would be more accurate.

That probably would've doubled the cost at the very least, and that's without demolition and mobilization.

Not to mention probably adding a second season out on the road...

And the indoor practice facility they planned for FC Cincinnati located on the north concourse.

The only real portions that will remain will be the center risers of the upper bowl, all else will be back to frame.

Nice...At first I thought it was staying, maybe with a screen upgrade, because in my head it was pretty new. I just looked it up and it was new in 2005. Its functional and good enough to have some definite salvage value for some smaller/cash strapped school. I would imagine it will be removed soon.

Football bubble back up to house 5/3rd weight room due to " unforeseen construction issue"

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/c...101547738/

Why is the bubble back up, when it usually comes down for the warmer spring and summer months? Turns out, there is a good reason. It is related to the ongoing $87 million renovation of the nearby Fifth Third Arena, the home of UC men's basketball, women's basketball and women's volleyball.

"We had an unforeseen construction issue," UC associate athletic director Ryan Koslen said. "There's going to be a large crane built on the floor of Fifth Third Arena for the next 10 months or so. Due to the weight room being directly under the arena floor where the crane will be located, the project team was concerned about a potential safety issue. So, the weight room was closed down over spring break and now there are all kinds of supports bracing the floor and the only accessible areas are the offices."

I'm no engineer but it would seem the structural integrity necessary to support that crane would have been determined long before the first row of seats was pulled out.

I'm sure there is a heating system for the bubble, but it would seem they'll now need air conditioning in there or the weight room will be more of a weight loss room in typical Cincinnati summer conditions.
