RE: CAA Tournament
I guess as a glutton for punishment, I went back and looked at the second half run that killed us.
From 19:00 to 11:01, the score went from 35-27 to 40-57 - so a 30-5 run for JMU. It started and ended with Roday's 3rd and 4th fouls.

Over that time span, JMU had 13 possessions and scored on every one of them. They were 8-11 on 2 pt field goals, 3-3 on 3 point field goals, and 5-5 on free throws. There were offensive rebounds on the three misses. Two of the misses were blocked layups by Rodney. 7 of the 8 made 2 pt baskets were layups. The three three-pointers and 1 old school three point play yields a healthy 2.31 points per possession over that stretch.

Drexel over that stretch had 12 possessions scoring on two of them for a 0.42 point per possession. They were 1-4 from 2 pt, 1-7 from 3 pt, with 2 turnovers and 1 offensive rebound. Spiker took two timeouts during the run; both resulted in Kari three point attempts one of which he made. The other basket was a layup by Bah. Our top two scorers in the stretch Rodney 0-1, 1 TO, Lee 0-1. The others Kari 1-3, Bah 1-1, Mojica 0-4, Moran 0-1.

The thing that sticks out to me the most here is that half of their points in that stretch came off layups. It is one thing if they get hot from 3, but those guys running a layup line on you is bad. It not like they have Ron Curry out there anymore. You have to give JMU some credit since they were taking advantage of the Williams' foul trouble, but still unacceptable.

The other thing that sticks out to me is the lack of offensive involvement by Rodney and Kurk Lee during that stretch. It is hard to judge the two possessions out of the timeouts since they resulted in two three point attempts by Kari, one of which he made the other was in-and-out. However given the ways fouls were being called it seems like we should have been attacking the rim more be it through the post or by driving.

Tonight's championship should be a good one. Pace will dictate who wins this one. UNCW was incredible yesterday and needed every bit of it to beat W&M. Faster pace game and UNCW should win, slow methodical pace should favor Charleston. Crowd should be a good one and fairly even in numbers. This is by far the best game to represent our conference for the title.

Here's a non-legit streaming option

I wouldn't use it without adblock though.

RE: CAA Tournament
Watching with a bootlegged stream. Despite the low scoring this game is very much in UNCW's favor. CofC turned it over quite a bit too. Big shot at the end of the half there for UNCW to go up 6. CofC can't be happy about being down 6 in this game, because when UNCW starts hitting shots, this game could get away from CofC quickly.

Nice to see Clarence Armstrong making sure that Drexel is represented in the championship game. Hopefully he doesn't make a bad call down the stretch.

Man the last two games UNCW starting hitting their shots. They are tough when they do that. Congrats to them for back to back titles.

Hopefully they can keep doing it and make some noise in the dance -- and then someone can hire away Kevin Keatts.

Having good programs is a good thing. Keatts will be getting looks regardless if they show well or not in the NCAA

Glad we sent the best team to the dance. The only thing UNCW did last night that was very concerning was their FT shooting. They never seemed to get in a groove at the charity stripe. Missing that many FT's typically means a short trip in the NCAA's. Hopefully they can continue their hot streak

I was listening to the game on the radio last night and the announcers said that NC State is very interested in Keats. This goes to show you why you rarely ever see mid-major teams stay dominant for long periods of time. Once a coach gets a little bit of success, a major program throws big bucks in his face and snatches him up. The replacement coach never seems to be able to replicate that success. At Drexel, we never have to worry about that problem.

Bruiser should have been gone after we got snubbed from the tourney a few years ago.

How many coaches at our level win 50 games in two seasons and are then let go?

So, this year's CAAT saw total attendance increase by 31% compared to last year and about 11.5% over the first year in Baltimore. Average attendance per session of 4250 is somewhat close to the 4500 per session in Richmond the first two years that the AE4 schools were involved. Granted it helped that the two closest schools ended up playing last night, but UNCW is 3.75 hrs from Charleston with no interstate connection (by comparison, that's a half hour shorter than the drive from my house in Delco to the Richmond coliseum even though my drive is about 60 miles further). I've done the Wilmington to Charleston round-trip, it isn't the funnest of drives, so it seems like there could be a base to build off of. I know I plan on trying to make it down next year, of course when I let my wife know of that intent she asked me "why," so maybe don't look for me.

ETA: The TV coverage better get better, because going hat in hand to the least subscribed cable sports network and then agreeing? to not stream it through the league website was a bad decision.

Remember that this was a last minute push to find a national cable outlet after NBC dumped the league. The only other options would have been NBC Regional Networks or American Sports Network. So at least it was on National TV.

I have no problem if the CAA decides to renew with CBS-SN. It's a network that's available to everybody in the country if they want it. If somebody is too cheap to have cable or a certain tier of cable, that their problem. But if the league does sign an agreement with CBS, it should come with a at least one national game of the week, and maybe even the opportunity to get the championship game on the real CBS. But of course that would mean the league would have to get creative with their tournament format and move their championship to a weekend. I don't see much creativity in the CAA Sports offices.

RE: CAA Tournament
LOL, thanks for calling me cheap. Well aware Comcast tossed us aside, after the semis had been on CSN the past couple of years, this year those were bumped for Spring Training and relegated to TCN. I really don't have an issue with it being on CBSSN if there had been more than a little less than two months of notice. The fact is that the league took a cut of about 25% in terms of households reached for its marquee event. For this year, due to short notice, they should have pushed for the allowance of streaming.

All "major" networks like this one should have streaming options. It is really dumb to not
