NBA joins NFL to warn Texas over transgender bathroom bill

Editor's note: This story has been updated to indicate the NBA's statement was first issued last week to the Houston Chronicle.

AUSTIN — Put the NBA on the growing list of sports organizations warning Texas over its proposed transgender bathroom bill.

In a statement to the Houston Chronicle last week, spokesman Mike Bass said the NBA weighs a number of factors before choosing where to hold major events, including how fans and athletes will be treated.

The NFL's warning became an instant lightning rod, with conservatives blasting the league for weighing in on the issue. Gov. Greg Abbott, who was largely mum on the bathroom bill before the NFL weighed in, has become particularly outspoken since, this week suggesting he would proposed passing a law requiring NFL players to stand during the national anthem if the league decided to boycott Texas.

I like football. And, I like basketball. But, these leagues need to stick with promoting their sports, and stay out of politics. This is not a fight they want to have.

If they're not careful they will turn off the average fan just like it happened to baseball after their strike.

They have to remember that sports is a sideline and we watch it for kicks and not because we have to. Someone needs to impress that on the league idiots.

What happens if (when) the 30+ GOP controlled states follow suit? Are these leagues going to "boycott" the majority of their franchises?

Dear Lord the egos and "self-righteousness" of these entertainment organizations. Stick to playing sports and stop imposing your beliefs on State's rights to govern. Quit poking the bear...

A big chunk of NFL fans live in the Red States and counties that voted for Trump.
The liberal elites that run the NFL may be shocked to find that we can and will walk away if they push their left coast liberalism on pro sports.

Average Joe football fan does not want transgender bathrooms foisted on him.

Both sport leagues need to stick to making sure their products are enjoyable.

The NFL is getting sterile and the NBA has more traveling than the Santa Fe Trail.
