RE: WAC Baseball 2017
WAC baseball champion seems to be coming down to either NMSU or GCU. NMSU has 15 conference games left 9 of them are at home. GCU need to have NMSU drop a couple WAC games and with 15 games for NMSU that is more than probable. GCU has 12 WAC games left 6 at home 6 on the road. The NMSU-GCU series will be fun to watch and see what happens in 2 weeks.

Another cool note is that all but 3 teams Sac st, Chicago St, and UTRGV are within 4.5 games of 1st place. A lot can happen but I think it will be either NMSU or GCU wining the WAC baseball Regular season title.

Give me CSUB to win the WAC tourney then. They are on fire. 7-1 in their last 8. They can hit with anybody just depends if the pitching shows up which it has lately.

CSUB beats Arizona State 8-6 and move to 20-15 on the season. Dewsnap with the 3 inning save. Love that dude.

Yah. Friday got away from us. Sat was winnable. Today we managed to get the pitching we needed. In 2017, we are 1-6 in Phoeniix!

I should have done my WAC duty and tweeted to ASU, "Why wont you ever schedule GCU?" :)

Side note. Announcer was saying it may approach 100 today in Phx. Bakersfield was a comfy 76 today.

GCU finishes off the sweep on UTRGV, with walk off wins in the last two games of the series. Regular season champ will likely be decided this weekend in Las Cruses with the two teams separated by a game. Also both GCU and NMSU softball play this weekend in Las Cruses for the regular season with both again being separated by a game.

Can confirm it most likely did reach a 100 today. Weather.com right now says that it is 98.

Actually had a fairly free weekend yesterday so...went to a CSUB-NMSU softball game. Great fun. NMSU was well represented in Bako.

I discovered that despite SB field renovation a year or so ago, the dugouts were not included!! So that's the next phase. I also learned that the SB field was once WAY BACK....a baseball field! Interesting. Must have been intramural, but it has/had recessed dugouts...pretty fancy for intramurals, so....I don't know if it was constructed for a baseball team that was never commenced years ago. Maybe another CSUB poster can shed light on this.

The current softball field WAS designed/built as a baseball diamond in the late 60s for California State COLLEGE, Bakersfield, in my recollection it was never used. My understanding is that the first AD at Bakersfield, Rudy Carvajal was not a baseball fan and did not want or push to have a baseball program.

Thx for the info,. Flying!
Arrr....C a r v a j a l: Name from the past, just like Arcieniega. Shall I, or leave them rest in peace? Actually Rudy DID a lot of good for CSUB. (Funny too, as I now recall, IIRC, the inception of baseball to get the school into DI was basically his last hurrah) I DO recall working as a student assistant (a 'Refuse Technician' as we called ourselves) seeing that CSUB DID study making the jump to DI back in about 1989. Have no idea why it didnt happen then, but likely due to size + donations.

And, I never could figure out why it took so long for us to get baseball there. Thx for the background.

I have no facts to substantiate this; but, rumor was the only reason they started baseball was to help gain admittance into the Big West...

Chicago State still hanging on for a chance to get into the tournament. Their series with UTRGV, Sac State, and UNC will likely determine their fate given those are the teams they're currently ahead. Of course NMSU is their next to last matchup as well-- that doesn't help!

Should be the last two won't get in unless a team is ineligible for another reason that I'm not aware of. Top 6 get in excluding GCU.
