No, Liberty will be in year two of the transition and not eligible for bowls.

Remember only 1 FCS game can count as a 'win'.

Just curious, why?
IT doesn't seem reasonable to me for schools with AD budgets in the 20's and 30's to be competing with schools who have 180m AD budgets.

I think every school competing at the same level should have a defined path to a championship. The g-5 do not have that yet every other sport in every conference has this. If you win all your games you are champion, except in FBS football.

I'm still waiting to understand why someone said Liberty's AD was so rich.

No offense but that remark is just based on ignorance. Why single out them? Why not just say anyone who does not have a athletic budget 150 million or above should not be FBS?

Furthermore, you seem to forget this is college not the NFL. What should happen is Liberty SHOULD have equal opportunity to compete with schools like Alabama. But $$$ have corrupted something meant for students.

There is no ignorance in my comment. You are just sensitive and can't handle the reality that what I said is true.

Liberty has no business competing at the FBS level because they do not have the $. Furthermore the g-5 is the only league in the entire NCAA where winning all your games does not result in a championship and that is not right IMO. There should be a level for these schools so they can compete for a championship like everyone else in all other collegiate sports.

Not every school has the god given right to compete with alabama, just those with at least somewhat similar resources. That is why we have so many levels of competition for sports like football.

Liberty has no business at this level and is not entitled to anything.

Football has a group of high level FCS schools like the Big Sky and the MAC, USA, and SB who should form a new league.

From what I understand LU has the money for a P5 budget. They held back while playing FCS. In fact I think their endowment (unrestricted) is comparable to Oklahoma's. You can Google it.

I am definitely all for schools making there own decisions and do what they can to better themselves. However, Oklahoma's endowment is nearly half a billion larger. A gap of half a billion is not comparable.

Because they are. They bring in money hand and fist from their online education program. Something like 90,000 people enrolled. And they're willing to invest in athletics because they see it as furthering their outreach. They have really nice facilities. You should check out their baseball stadium.

Umm... A billion dollar endowment is really impressive. Boise State is not even close with 93.5 million dollar endowment. Most schools in FBS do not have a billion dollar endowment.

The difference from most schools is that Liberty built theirs with revenue from online degree programs. Most endowment figures of public schools are based on donations.

It's also unrestricted. At most universities the money is restricted for certain uses. Someone told me a few years ago that Art Williams had set aside enough money to enlarge Williams Stadium to 60,000 when needed. Needs to be fact checked though.

So by your logic, only one conference should be at that level, got it....

Spends the same.

Sure it does - but it isn't comparing apples to apples.

I think every school competing at the same level should have a defined path to a championship. The g-5 do not have that yet every other sport in every conference has this. If you win all your games you are champion, except in FBS football.

I'm still waiting to understand why someone said 's AD was so rich.

No offense but that remark is just based on ignorance. Why single out them? Why not just say anyone who does not have a athletic budget 150 million or above should not be FBS?

Furthermore, you seem to forget this is college not the NFL. What should happen is SHOULD have equal opportunity to compete with schools like Alabama. But $$$ have corrupted something meant for students.
There is no ignorance in my comment. You are just sensitive and can't handle the reality that what I said is true.

has no business competing at the FBS level because they do not have the $.

That is why we have so many levels of competition for sports like football.

has no business at this level and is not entitled to anything.

Given the fact that Oklahoma has been around since 1890 and Liberty since 1971, an endowment that is 2/3 of a school that's 80 years older is pretty impressive. Basically Liberty is growing twice as fast as Oklahoma.

Via a shady method that should be outlawed.

Using MY tax dollars to rip-off veterans and other on-line students with worthless degrees.

LOL. I have no idea how endowments end up in every AD budget conversation but it's a recurring theme.

So I did a quick bit of research. I can assure you that unless there is a whale donor here making the AD rich it's unlikely the AD is generating it's own income.

The BB attendance is right at 1,000 for most games with a big game getting 2 thousand fans. WBB like draws a couple hundred. FB draws 15k-20k. That's not the support of a rich AD bu tFB is not bad compared to some FBS programs like most of the MAC.

Nobody said that the AD generated the money, just that they had it to spend. Let me type real slow for you. Liberty made a bunch of money from online education. They used this money to invest in capital projects and grow their endowment. Since it grew this way as opposed to coming from donors it is almost completely unrestricted. I.E. they can spend the income it produces on whatever they want. Liberty has a decidedly different mission than does Rice and have decided that sinking large amounts of money into pursuing FBS (and assumedly now that they're here into becoming successful) is in line with their University's mission.

Read some more here:

"Bill Carr, whose CarrSports Consulting works with schools attempting to move up to higher divisions, said he's never seen a school more prepared for the move up to FBS than Liberty.

A former Florida athletic director who played football for the Gators, Carr said Liberty "has, by far, the most resources," of any school he's worked with attempting to jump to FBS."

edit: They also do have some deep pocketed donors as well

"It spends the same"

This complaint about the origins of Liberty's money is definitely the college football equivalent of Vespasian's discussion of his urine tax with his disapproving son Titus.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Roman historian Suetonius reports that when Vespasian's son Titus complained about the disgusting nature of the tax, his father held up a gold coin and asked whether he felt offended by its smell (sciscitans num odore offenderetur). When Titus said "No", Vespasian replied, "Yet it comes from urine" (Atqui ex lotio est).
