Yea, that could happen, but you'd be playing AT another team in that case. Remember that (with one exception) FBS teams do not ever schedule games at FCS teams.

Of course the FBS team would have to agree to that.

Seriously, LU is planning on PAYING to play AWAY games????

Okay.

Maybe I don't understand your question.
Yes, it was a confusing question and I was distracted when writing it. Let me re-state using an example. On 8/31/2019 Gardnew Webb plays Charlotte. Could GW be paid by LU to terminate their contract and take their place vs. Charlotte, with of course Charlotte agreeing? It would be a road game for LU but a FBS game.

Sure, they could, and Charlotte would have to agree to it. But seriously, if you guys want LU to be seen as a 'real FBS team' paying to play Charlotte on the road is going to raise more than a few eyebrows.

But what's in it for Charlotte? They already have a game scheduled, with an easy win program, that will count towards bowl eligibility. Why switch it to LU? What's in it for them?
Charlotte was used after a quick search of nearby schools with a FCS game. For Charlotte or any FBS school to agree, obviously it would have to advantageous (financial) to them. As aggressive and overt as LU has been in acquiring FBS, one can bet they will be equally, if not greater if their quest, thinking outside the box to meet the game scheduing requirements.

Liberty has a ton of money and they care about sports. Uh oh. Knowing Turner Gill's situation, (Liberty picked him up when he was chopped liver) he could remain loyal and build something; this program may be making some noise down the line.

I think BYU will be a natural scheduling partner. In the end, it's football played by college kids. No need to punish the kids playing for Liberty with some scheduling boycott.

LOL.

I thought Army was too good for schools like Liberty. If Army is too good to play a school like NMSU, why is Liberty acceptable to such a storied program?

BYU only has a home opening for 2018. 2019 has a home opening and a road opening (assuming a FCS game TBA). 2020 only has 1 home opening (assuming a FCS game TBA).

Charlotte is the most advantageous for both schools. Liberty will fill hotel rooms.

My guess is that the teams willing to play H-H with Liberty are:

Charlotte
Old Dominion
Kent State
Bowling Green
Appalachian State
Coastal Carolina
UMASS

Plus

West Virginia and Virginia will give them payday games.

Possibilities are UAB, Army, UMass, Coastal Carolina, and New Mexico State

Williams Stadium should hold 30,000 plus by then.

One of the home games in 2019 and 2020 will be a FCS game assuming the scheduling pattern holds so that would only leave one opening.

2019's road game just filled up with Tennessee in a H/H series in 2019 @ Tennessee and in 2023 @ BYU and the 2019 FCS home game is Idaho State. That leaves only 1 home game left to fill for 2019.

With the move to FBS most drivable away games went out the door for us. A weekend stay in Lynchburg sounds very nice.

RE: Who is the first school to schedule a game at Liberty?
Based on this report from A Sea of Red, we should certainly find out soon. Wonder which league would enter into a scheduling agreement? MAC or Sun Belt? Would certainly make sense for the Sun Belt, especially if some of these recent FBS move-ups like GaSo, Appy and Coastal need to make sure they have routine home-and-home with fellow G5s at the very least...

===

Liberty has come to terms on scheduling agreements for multiple FBS games in both 2018 and 2019, according to sources. No word yet on who those scheduled games are with. Liberty plans to release the entire 2018 schedule at once as opposed to releasing individual games as they are signed.

It’s been less than 2 weeks since President Jerry Falwell, Jr. and Athletic Director Ian McCaw announced Liberty’s move from FCS to FBS Independent, and McCaw and his staff have been hard at work putting together a schedule for 2018 and 2019. The NCAA requires the Flames to have a minimum of 3 FBS home games in 2018 and 5 in each season thereafter.

A scheduling alliance with another G5 conference moving forward could also be a possibility. The idea would be similar to the scheduling agreement Notre Dame has currently with the ACC. The Fighting Irish, who also competes as an FBS Independent member, plays four to six games against ACC opponents each season as part of the agreement signed in 2013.

Don't forget CUSA. There has been some speculation about Liberty playing UTEP in 2018/19/20.

If Liberty got a scheduling alliance similar to ND with possible Bowl considerations, that would be incredible for them. I think that would be ideal for CUSA. In the ACC/ND agreement ND may not pass a time with 2 more wins. I think this could be a win/win for both parties. While people dis the Liberty TV Network, it would get another game televised for CUSA without having to cover the costs. https://www.liberty.edu/Flames/index.cfm?PID=10907

IT doesn't seem reasonable to me for schools with AD budgets in the 20's and 30's to be competing with schools who have 180m AD budgets.

I think every school competing at the same level should have a defined path to a championship. The g-5 do not have that yet every other sport in every conference has this. If you win all your games you are champion, except in FBS football.

I'm still waiting to understand why someone said Liberty's AD was so rich.

Actually, the would be eligible over 5-7 teams if they have a 6-6 record if there are not enough FBS 6-6 teams.

No, Liberty will be in year two of the transition and not eligible for bowls.

Actually, yes. These are the last teams eligible before the 5-7 teams may be picked. The reason Ga Southern could not go there first year was due to there were enough teams. Things you need to learn if you are an FBS fan. 03-wink
