RE: Question for the board....
I knew a few in college.
They both grew up in Cleveland and never learnt how to drive, as they relied on public transportation to get around.
Granted, the two people I knew both ended up getting an ID right around the time of their 21st birthday, for obvious reasons.

Sorry, everyone I know has state issued ID of one sort or another. Can't do anything without one (including vote here).

RE: Question for the board....
I got one when I turned 16 and needed a drivers license. I've never been too far away from it either.
In those days we didn't need student IDs. The first time I needed an ID for school was at community college.
A funny story: One time I was asked for an ID and I gave them my credit card, I use that more than a drivers license.

The type of people who don't have ID are the type that you rarely see interact with the demographics of this forum.

RE: Question for the board....
To the best of my knowledge everybody I know has one. Then again I'm not in a position where I walk around asking either. We use e-verify at work so I assume they've done it all legally.

True. But I didn't think you could use your college ID to vote.

You explained it the first time. They had no state ID because they chose not to have one..not because they could not get one.

Quite the assumption you've made there.

I doubt anyone here was born and raised in an inner city and never left. Also if you are on a college sports forum talking politics chances are you are quite self sustaining.

That was my first thought. Most here have been to college and participate in the mainstream of American life.
Still, when you ask the question of "How many people in the US NEVER have a need for ID other than voting?" ........that has to be a very, very small number.

I agree and Id bet the vast majority of them do so by choice..not because the lack the ability to obtain an ID. Im sure a tiny fragment of the population that has some legal issue that is prohibitive. These are the cases we should address and solve. The rest are a non issue.

I've often wondered if a segment of folks "lack ID' on purpose......maybe a bit easier to blend into the shadows.........

I think it's someone who is dirt poor, takes public transport to work and uses a payday loan center to cash his paycheck.
The number is 11% who don't have the IDs.

Where are more resources located for getting an ID? Inner city or out in the middle of nowhere?

But what percentage of that "can't legally" obtain an ID? That is really the question. I don't buy the argument that people can't afford the cost of an ID today. They can afford to buy booze and cigarettes.
