I'll be rooting against this.

Nothing against you, personally.

We just opened up your long sought after path to FBS and you are cheering against us? Interesting.
LU is the lightning rod, that opposing school fans will be hyped, super hyped to play for a beat down. LU will take it's lumps, win a memorable game every once in while, then two and so on until it becomes a legitimate FBS program.

Who in D2 could be called up for the Big South to replace the football school? UNC-Pembroke? They don't have a home for their football program in D2. North Greenville needs a home as well.

Campbell is joining in 2018 with North Alabama in 2019. The Big South is already protected from this move.

I see problems for them in scheduling. P12, B12, B1G, and MAC simply don't have late season slots even if they were willing to play them. A lot of ACC schools - frankly almost all public P5 schools and many G5 public schools, even a number of the SBC (their presidents were near unanimous in rejecting them) - will refuse to schedule them. The elite privates wont touch them either. Sure a Baylor (if they even have schedule space) and desperate school for November dates like NMSU might schedule them, but it's hard to see a long list. It may cost Georgia $500K more to schedule Kent State, but that is one protest headache a school President and AD don't have to deal with.

Maybe Falwell is hoping President Trump will force Army to create a hole in their schedule (they're booked through 2021) by EO.

The SEC loves to play late season ooc games. They might land a couple of those and front load the schedule with the home games. Anything is possible when money is involved.

LU needs HOME games. My guess is that, initially, they will have to pay for them.

Most schools have to pay for home games as well. But they also need late season games which are hard to come by because of conference play. So I'm suggesting that LU might load up with home games early in the season when more schools are available and play at a couple of SEC schools late in the season since that conference already is known for scheduling G5 OOC games late in the season. Just a little help in late season scheduling that is difficult for independents.

So happy today as a Liberty Flames fan! To those who have wished us luck and congratulations, thank you. To those skeptics and haters, I hope that our play on the field and the way we conduct our business will eventually change your mind. It is a good day indeed. And yes, I thank God for the position he has placed LU and the blessings he has bestowed. God is good.

Be Early! Be Loud!! Wear Red!!!

If the American can't get a decent tv deal, we could see a new age of independents.

Is there an article anywhere that summarizes the guilt/knowledge of McCaw, personally, in the Baylor scandals?

Congratulations to Liberty fans as it must be an exciting day for you. God bless and hope you have some strong leaders as Ian McCaw is far from that. He will tow the line to his superiors as he is a follower and not a leader.

RE: Liberty to FBS
I think Liberty is going to try to cash in on the new 9 game P5 scheduling requirements which will push some of the SBC/CUSA into needing more FBS home games.

Coastal is a rival and may sign them right back up.

SBC country schools feel differently about Liberty since they have christian academies in their backyards.

If Liberty were to get booted from the Big South, could they more or less trade places with Kennesaw State or USC Upstate in the Atlantic Sun?

RE: Liberty to FBS
I believe Liberty has played 11 different FBS schools since 2010 and has one scheduled this year. They may have even played UCONN one year. I believe they are 21 & 4 all time against FBS schools.

Many schools will want to schedule them as an. FBS team instead of scheduling FCS teams.

Many G5 schools will want to schedule them so they can be seen on TV because of Liberty's TV deal. Let's face it how many G5 teams have a TV deal.

I guess we will see what schools "really" want to move up. The big excuse is now dead.

As an aside---I think Liberty was going to be able to claim religious discrimination---because, effectively, that's a major reason they are having a hard time getting in an FBS conference.

I cant believe we are over 100 posts in and there is no list from David St. I figured the NCAA granting a move up FBS waiver would be like Christmas morning for him. 04-cheers

It's just inviting protests and controversy. If there is one thing University Presidents want to avoid it is campus wide protests - whether real or imagined. I can see Conferences like the P12, B1G and ACC quietly instituting a black listing of Liberty, without ever saying anything in public. GCU ran into that with the Pac-12, Liberty could see a national version of that.

Strange....UConn and UNC have already played Liberty, as has Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, and Kent State........along with NC State and Wake Forest from the ACC. Other regional FBS foes with history playing liberty includes Old Dominion, West Virginia, Marshall, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Middle Tennessee St, Georgia State and Georgia Southern.

With the move to FBS this will open the door for Liberty to sign games with Clemson and South Carolina since almost all of the FCS games for those two schools are against South Carolina FCS schools.

Somehow I doubt that Liberty will have any trouble setting a schedule.

nah.....none of those can afford to make a move w/o SOME revenue and regional opponent.

NCAA just basically gave Liberty a waiver because they can afford to lose millions/year.

They gave them a waiver because Liberty would sue the shite out of the ncaa if they didn't

I am happy for Liberty. Liberty are part of Div 1 in other sports. I am so tired of the elitist attitudes because some don't like their religious views. They are no different than ND or BYU. Personally, I think if a school has the money and meet FBS requirements, they should be allowed to become independent. Felt a school willing to legal challenge, would win against the NCAA.

As for P5, they would have no issues with independent schools. The G5 on the other hand, I can see be against it. Liberty will be paid very well for at least 4 cannon fodder games verse the P5.

Can someone please explain to me about this TV deal? If its on channel 3523 and no one watches it anyway, its not going to be a better deal for our teams than streaming on ESPN3

ND is different. They don't discriminate. LU does on the basis of gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status and RELIGION. Here's ND on inclusion.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca9bUC7jqAs

LU is not a peer of Notre Dame. Watch the video if you'd like to see the difference between the two schools.

The NCAA probably would have won a lawsuit, citing the precedent set in Dale v Boy Scouts, which clearly allows for private organizations to set their own membership criteria. If the NCAA wanted to play hardball, they'd simply pass a rule stating that NCAA member organizations cannot discriminate in hiring or participation on the basis of religion, sexual orientation, or marital status.
