You could always go back to CUSA.

Thats the thing we never left c-usa, we just got slightly more money for the same no rivalries conference.

Pretty certain rice is a rivalry, pretty sure they are in c-usa.. Your statement makes no sense

It makes perfect sense we are literally in pretty much the same conference minus our only rival. So if anything you just proved why if not for the slightly better money we are pretty much still in the same conference:

Some of you people have a really over inflated view of yourself. UH would be irrelevant without the American. How'd your 12-1 season go in CUSA? Big time Ticket City bowl game and a #17 ranking. No one gave a crap about you.

Fast forward to 15' and your ranked 8th, in the Peach Bowl and ESPN's darling with your 13-1 season in the AAC.

The only people here who can make any sort of argument about not being in a drastically better situation in the American is Cincy and UConn.

Actually we were ranked #7 until we lost to usm in the championship game... sorry but we thats a terrible point to try and make, as we would have finished top 5 if we had won out. To put it simply we would have had a better season in c-usa.

Has worked out great so far..... 02-13-banana

we have by far the best G5 deal in terms of money and exposure. Not sure what yall were expecting in 2012 when the deal was signed, we were a bunch of no name schools who no one cares about. Basically CUSA 2.0 +cinci uconn and usf who lets face it don't move the needle when it comes to football.

I'll be more critical of aresco if he fails to increase revenue on the next round of negotiations.

Here we go again.

We make a couple 100k more than the MWC. Aresco had legit nothing to do with the exposure, ESPN matched the terrible NBC offer, he had no other choice. Oh and our bowls stink. The AAC schools are far and away the best group of G5 schools in terms of every metric (history, prestige, brand, markets, budgets, facilities, coaches).

Whatever. The guy is horribly overpaid.

This has got to be k e of the dumbest posts

1) even if ESPN didn't match we would have had 10 guaranteed games on nbc/cbs for football/basketball that's 10x more broadcast game than any other G5

2) ESPN to date has matched 100% of contracts and sued the one conference that didn't let them match.. To believe aresco didn't know that and use it to his advantage is stupid

3) aresco had to negotiate how the nbc deal translated to ESPN.. Espn could have easily said all the guaranteed nbcsports game are all equivalent to espnnews but here we are with over 60 Espn2 or higher games a year for all sports

To say he had nothing to do with the exposure is idiotic and I hope you get as much credit in your job as you give aresco

And you last point is also dumb...we weren't better by every metric in 2013, most thought we'd lose houston and Smu to the MWC, the computers that year even ranked the MWC higher, and They had dramatically better stability.. You are comparing 2016-17 AAC to a deal signed in 2013...

Which adds to aresco credit, nbc wanted a 14 year deal aresco said he wanted a 3 year deal becuase he knew we'd be valued dramatically more when the dust settled.. It was eventually settled at 6, but aresco said he planned to renegotiate in 4..

Seriously, what are you trying to say with the bolded line? You're posts are excrutiating to read, because I have to break out my AACbbs decoder ring; and even that thing has no idea what half the things you're trying to say, actually say.

He also jumped on that click bait article by Rothstein that started that Uconn to the NBE sh!t storm this week. It seems like he has an unnatural interest in trying to make us seem unstable. That hack really, really hates the AAC'S existence for some reason. 07-coffee3

He has been the guy when it comes to realignment news. That's been his thing. As far as him hating on the AAC maybe you are on to something....he certainly feels threatened by anything that threatens the status quo: Cartel 5 conference set up, which is strange considering he's not an ESPN guy, so he has no obvious vested interest. It's worth looking into.
Cheers!

Maybe in some alternate universe he is. But here in reality, he's nothing more than an overpaid hack, who likes the sound of his own voice and thinks others like it as well.

(OF course, there once was a league that thought that way...)

But all of the "nope--Dodd's a CBS shill--fake news--we're going to get $8-10M per school" sounds a lot like y'all sounded when news of your current contract started to filter out.

Go look at the estimates from media experts. Even the media experts mentioned by columnist at the time reflected 30-60 million.

Dodd was saying $60-100M when we were still together and still had Boise, Louisville and Rutgers. We all thought that was crazy talk. You all are saying that what he's saying now is crazytalk.

Quote:There was a real chance that additional schools would break off. Hell, Boise was negotiating behind the scenes to see what they could get as an indy---and then later as a separate package with the MW. Houston and SMU were receiving overtures from the MW. UConn and Cinci were supposedly flirting with the Big East with football memberships elsewhere. Aresco knew he had to land a deal FAST or one or more members might pull the trigger on another opportunity.

Those flirtations were more a RESULT of the money not being there than a cause. If Aresco could have put a credible $50M offer on the table (post-C7) I'm pretty sure Boise doesn't go anywhere.

The NBE original deal was only about 3mil per. Then fox was willing to go up to 5mil because they really wanted the big East name which was going to cost the nbe approximately 2mil per team per year. I really believe some executive at fox was hoping to recreate that OBE magic ratings was at fox,,, we'll it hasn't happened yet even with the NBE is performing at a power level.by comparison the AAC has dominated every conference outside of the P5s ratings wise including the NBE. So call me a sunshine pumper, but I think we'll get a minimum of the Nbe's 5mil to a high of 10mil. I do think we will have to hit the open market though (but with actual ratings stats in our hands this time. 07-coffee307-coffee307-coffee3

I don't think we will make it to the open market.

There is reasonable motivation on both sides to do a new deal early that increases the AAC pay. It wont maximize our value---but the membership would rather get that money earlier than later.

Endless falshoods. Is ur last name aresco? To b clear, getting paid as a commish ($1.6mm before travel expenses) almost the same as an entire athletic dept (2.1mm) is somehow reasonable in your mind. Congrats.

RE: Dennis Dodd on AAC Contract
DEAR FRIENDS,

THERE IS AN OMNIPOTENT TROLL NAMED "p23570" WHO IS ATTACKING THE BOARD IN WAYS I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.

THIS GUY MAKES BIG EAST HOMER LOOK LIKE THE POPE.

I AM ASKING YOU ALL TO PUT ASIDE YOUR DIFFERENCES, SAVE YOUR BATTLES FOR A LATER DAY, AND COME TOGETHER.

IMAGINE A SMART VERSION OF BIG EAST HOMER WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS A LITTLE ABOUT FOOTBALL, AND PERHAPS MORE VICIOUS.

HE MAY NOT HAVE A THOUSAND USERNAMES LIKE BEH (Tigersmoke, Phil Lacio etc etc etc) BUT HE IS MUCH MORE DANGEROUS.

WE NEED TO STICK TOGETHER. SIMPLE. WE SHALL CODE NAME p23570 the following: C3-PO. WE SHALL MAKE A MOCKERY OF THIS TROLL.

IF ANYONE SEES p23570 (AKA C3-PO) REPORT HIM AND REFER TO HIM AS THIS CODE NAME.

THANK YOU ALL.

I'm saying that IF we only get $200,000 per team in the new AAC ESPN TV deal, it's time to disband the AAC.

If that happens my choice would be for UC, UCONN, Temple, and Memphis to push for Big East inclusion in olympic sports. We could all go inday and along with BYU, Army, and UMASS have a lose scheduling agreement. This group alone would fill up half a schedule. You throw in the annual FCS cupcake and each of us would only need to find four or five games. (UC still has our annual game vs Miami OH for instance). It could work.

Ummm, just as much corporate interest at CBS as at ABC/ESPN in driving down the perceived value of the American.
That was true last time around when Dodd's irresponsible idiocy increased the perception of instability, and it is true now.
Clear conflict of interest in news department putting out shoddy pieces that support a negotiation by the programming department. It would be one thing if this was reporting with, you know, sources and hard work; when it is rumormongering and then slapping the CBS logo on it, it is another.

Journalistic ethics are dead.

Well, Houston does have Tulsa... So you at least have one rival.

agree but football drives the bus and pays the bills TV revenue wise. Hence why I put "when it comes to football" at the end. Basketball is basically irrelevant when it comes to TV revenue negotiations.

Disagree. Tell that to the Big East.

A power conference basketball league should be pulling in around $5M per year for basketball... see the P5. That's about 3x what the AAC gets with football.

It's probably closer to 10-15x the AAC basketball only portion of the Tv contract.
the big east is playing on a channel no one watches or can find. We traded money for exposure. Hope it works out for us and we get a pay raise on the next contract. Schools outside of UCONN and Cinci bball had to prove their worth and it looks like some are (SMU etc.)
Eff you guys. Memphis is and was a bball brands also.the only reason a lot of schools like yours made a dime in cusa was because of the only nationally recognized brand in their. Memphis basketball!05-nono

agree memphis basketball is a top tier brand. Left them off but wasn't trying to contend they weren't at the top of the league in terms of hoops brand although slightly below Uconn.

Temple would never be added to the Big East due to Nova.

Zero chance we are getting only $200k. Step back from the ledge. Navy gets around $2 million just from football from cbs minus the army/navy game.
