RE: UConn to Big East?
What would be really interesting is if UCONN, CINCY, MEM, & Temple all went to BE in BBall and Indy in FB. Schedule each other and other indies. No lost revenue in media deals and with all programs in major metro areas, it would likely mean a significant bump in revenue with selling of their own media rights. Could potentially double current payouts.
Schedule agreements in FB w BYU and others would be great.
BE becomes potentially the #1/2 basketball conference again

Cincy should be P5 and no way they go with that plan.

Also, how much is the AAC's exit fee?

The AAC requires 27 months of notice from a school to leave the conference and has a $10 million dollar exit fee.

so 27 months would be if they do it by end of March good for July of 2019. Far more likely that it'll wind up being July of 2018.

I just don't see them wanting to add a state school with football when they are all private and none have FBS football, and only one of the two with football even has scholarships.

While I didn't support the initial post you responded to, yours is just as much of an outlier.

RE: UConn to Big East?
The Big East Conference said it hasn’t had any discussions with UConn about the school re-joining the Big East Conference.
“There haven’t been any discussions,” Big East spokesman John Paquette told ZAGSBLOG on Wednesday morning.

I would love to see a bunch of new independent football programs.

Back to the Future! Welcome.

One league source also told ZAGSBLOG the two sides have had talks.

so which is it?

Seems like a whole lot of smoke here.

Now we know it's legit. Denial as a defense mechanism (or NDA).

RE: UConn to Big East?
UConn would give the MAC a third program who has made it to a NY6 game.

Plus it would force the AAC to downgrade with its backfill...narrowing the gap between it and the MAC.

UConn could spend less on FB coaches in the MAC saving money there.

The denial is an official spokesman for the league. The article then quotes another article (same one in the OP) with unnamed sources that claim otherwise.

Only problem is UConn football has sucked last few years. look at Sagarin last year, they were #154, the worst in the AAC. Pretty much anyone they would take would be better than that. And UConn going to MAC would hurt them(they would have been their 3rd worst team this year). So if anything, the gap would increase between the MAC and AAC in football....

RE: UConn to Big East?
- MAC won't take UConn football. It's done with Eastern football-only's. Tried that with Temple and UMass, and it didn't work out. UConn is not a (significantly) better add than either of those two, right now. Sure, it has potential and has great facilities.

- This is great for UConn. It should be in the Big East, with its historical rivals. It does not belong in a league playing teams well outside the Northeast like Tulane, Tulsa, Houston, Memphis, etc.

- While perhaps Big East should consider adding Dayton too, it sounds like from the article that going to 11 with UConn lets them do a 20 game BB schedule, double-round robin, which is what they want. So no Dayton for now.

- I'll say it until I'm blue in the face, and even if UConn admin are adamant in disagreement with me: the best course of action is for UConn to go independent in football. This won't hurt its football program one iota, relative to what it is in the AAC now (non-competitive). Could help them, if anything. If need be, you can do a yearly home/home with UMass in Gillette and the Rent.

- AAC adds Wichita St to get back to 11 full-members, and goes to 20 game BB schedule, matching the ACC and Big East (which goes to 20, double-round robin with the addition of UConn). To get back to 12 football members, AAC adds Army in football only. The Army-Navy game stays in its special slot, after the bowl games. Not sure how to best address it ... perhaps Army and Navy never play each other in conference, and it's always a non-conf game?

Congrats, doesn't change the fact you recruit at a MAC level.

Nor does it change the fact that you lost to a MAC-level team. 07-coffee3

Congratulations blind squirrel - you found a nut!

There is a budget gap for sure, between UConn and the Big East schools. UConn has an annual athletic budget of about $70 million. Villanova (with FCS football) is at about $40 million. I suspect Villanova's athletic budget is at or near the top among Big East schools.
