UTRGV Athletics Unveils 2017-21 Strategic Plan
Quote:EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics unveiled on Tuesday its strategic plan for 2017-21, with the goals of improving facilities, finances and fundraising, promoting a culture of integrity, driving for competitive excellence, investing in the community through branding and engagement in alignment with the university, mission, vision, core priorities and strategic direction, and ensuring student-athlete success.
"Our goal with this strategic plan is to establish a plan that is visionary and audacious in nature," UTRGV Director of Athletics Chris King said. "This cutting edge plan defines our direction as the environment changes at UTRGV and we navigate the dynamic landscape of the NCAA."
The focus of this strategic plan is to improve the student-athlete experience, which begins with recruitment and culminates with graduation. UTRGV Athletics strives to make a long-lasting experience that will prepare each student-athlete for both personal and professional success.
"Our vision in this plan will create success for intercollegiate athletics," King said. "We will focus on the growth of this program, our people, our culture of "16 Sports, 1 Team," our values and beliefs, and developing meaningful relationships throughout UTRGV and the surrounding communities."
The core themes of the strategic plan include:
AchieVe
•Facilities: Provide our 16 varsity sport programs with premiere facilities that are competitive with conference and peer institutions to maximize training, recruiting and competition.
•Finances: Allocate the financial resources required to achieve the department's purpose while operating efficiently as an auxiliary unit of the university.
•Fundraising: Establish five-year goals for revenue generation to support department operating budget and capital projects for our 16 varsity sports.
BelieVe
•Cultivate and nurture an environment within intercollegiate athletics in which NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance, equity, diversity, and inclusion are components within the hiring, recruiting and decision-making process.
DriVe
•Achieve national recognition for competitive excellence measured by conference championships and NCAA postseason competition.
InVest
•Branding: Elevate the identity of UTRGV Athletics to become the industry standard and the region's premiere athletic organization.
•Fan Experience: Provide first class fan engagement experiences for each sport program to foster university spirit and enhance the UTRGV Athletics brand.
•Licensing: Collaborate with licensing partner to develop a merchandise and licensing plan to increase brand presence in the regional retail market.
•Marketing: Establish a consistent athletics presence on all UTRGV campuses and throughout the Rio Grande Valley through marketing, media and engagement.
•Service and Engagement: Unite the Rio Grande Valley under one Division I athletic program through regional service and engagement.
•Communications: Strategically communicate the value and benefit of intercollegiate athletics to the university and regional community.
ThriVe
•Academics: Enhance a comprehensive athletics academic support program that promotes graduation within four years, increases departmental grade point averages, and facilitates academic progress rate progression while maintaining a culture of academic integrity.
•Personal Development: Implement a life skills curriculum to provide information, resources and opportunities to enhance the well-being of our student-athletes and maintain a culture of student-athlete participation.
•Student-Athlete Welfare: Provide the resources and personnel to create a culture and environment that facilitates the growth and development of our student-athletes.
"Most strategic plans are goal driven. Ours is action driven," King said. "This is an evolving plan that will elevate intercollegiate athletics. It's about being audacious and aggressive and working with the university and the Rio Grande Valley to create success and growth to elevate our program and become the standard for Division I athletics. "
The football feasibility study, which is not mentioned in the current document, is still ongoing. More details will be released at a later date.

A sensible focused and attainable plan. Nice job. Football should not be on the agenda, not for a long time (talk about expensive)
Now let's look at Chicago State's plan ...
