Dehaan, who recently added his first offer from NIU, made an unofficial visit to the DeKalb based campus a few weeks go and came away impressed with the Huskies.

"Saturday was my first visit to NIU and my Dad also went along," he said. "I had a great visit. I really liked the campus and the coaches at NIU are great guys. The coaches really stood out to my at NIU. I had a great talk with my recruiting coach Mike Uremovich and all of the coaches at NIU just made me feel welcomed. NIU offered me as a more of a tight end for them but they also said they like me as a defensive end. It seems like most schools are looking at me for now as a defensive end recruit."

Brummett discussed why he decided to pledge to NIU.

"NIU has a really nice program and I just feel very comfortable with NIU. They offer a really strong education especially in my major (graphic design). NIU from early on made me feel like I was a priority for them and that was also important. NIU offered me as a wide receiver and I'm totally comfortable moving over to receiver. Most schools had been looking at me as more of an athlete type of recruit anyways."

So why commit so early in the recruiting process?

"NIU just felt like the right place for me and it also felt like the right time to commit. I didn't want to wait and miss out on a great opportunity. I was honestly ready to make a decision. Recruiting made really really focus on what is important to me and I didn't want to pass up a great opportunity at NIU."

Brummett is also excited to be playing at the next level relatively close to home.

"NIU is a decent distance away from home but it's also not too far. My Mom and my family can still make the drive up to watch my home games at NIU. " - EDGYTIM

Mitchell discussed why he decided to pledge to the NIU Huskies.

"I really like the coaches at NIU. My wide receivers coach at NIU is Steve Crutchley also coached my older brother in college and he a great guy and a great coach as well. I just come away from NIU knowing that it's a strong family bond in the football program. I looked at my options and NIU just stood out from the rest of the schools."

Mitchell also pointed towards NIU's overall program strength was another key reason in his decision.

"NIU has had a lot of success over the years, but they are also going back to work and trying to get the football team winning games again. I want to come in and just grind together with my team at NIU and help us get back to bowl games and MAC championships."

Mitchell is also thrilled to have his recruiting process completed.

"Recruiting was fun at times but it was also getting pretty stressful. I'm just glad to have it over and I can just focus on my team and my senior season."

Height: 6'3"
Weight: 190 lbs

Quote:"I was ready to I gave NIU my commitment," Hogans said. "I just really like everything that NIU has to offer. I looked hard at a few other schools but in the end NIU just fit me the best."

Hogans discussed why he decided to end his recruiting process and pledge to the NIU Huskies.

"NIU just has a lot to offer. I really like all of the coaches at NIU. They all seem like good guys and guys who can help me grow and develop. NIU is also close to home and my family and friends can get to see me play in college. I was also really impressed at how hard they work at NIU. I was able to go see a few practices in person and they just really go hard and get after it every day. NIU also offers strong academics and everything just seemed to come together for me at NIU."

Hogans admitted that he looked at a few other schools before making his decision this evening.

"I looked hard at North Dakota State and also Central Michigan. It really had very little to do with location to be honest. It was just that NIU offers me the best possible fit on and off the field. Distance was really never a big factor for me and if I was able to find a great fit far away from home I was ready to go. It just is a nice benefit that I'll be closer to home with NIU."

Hogans is also happy and relieved to have his recruiting process completed.

"I'm very happy to have made my decision. It was starting to become harder and harder to figure it all out. The hardest part of the process is just having to make a decision. You end up building relationships with a lot of good people, then you have to tell them no in the end. That was harder to do than I expected."

"NIU just feels like family to me. They have a great family atmosphere at NIU plus everyone always makes me feel so welcomed and wanted at NIU. The coaches are great guys and I also know a lot of guys already on the team at NIU. They offered me and recruited me as a wide receiver and I feel that NIU is just a really good fit for me."

Squat(LBS): 450
Deadlift(LBS): 400
Clean(LBS): 220

Quote:"I visited NIU yesterday (Saturday) and that visit really sold me on NIU," Griffin said. "I always wanted to stay closer to home for school and once NIU stepped up and offered me it was a hard offer to turn down. After the visit on Saturday I was sold on NIU so I called up the coaches and committed this morning."

Johnson discussed why he gave the NIU Huskies his verbal commitment.

"I have a lot of friends at NIU. It's close to home and they also offer a great education. I also really like the coaches at NIU a lot. I get along really well with all of the coaches and I know they will make me a better player. Saturday was the first time I was able to really see the campus at NIU and it's really nice. NIU just feels like the best overall fit for me."

Griffin admitted that it's been a long process for him and is happy to have given NIU his verbal commitment.

"The recruiting process was a long process for me. I played offensive line last season so I didn't have a ton of tape so schools didn't really recruit me hard until they started to see me this spring and summer. I'm most comfortable playing anywhere on the defensive line and that's what NIU is recruiting me for in college. The coaches said they can see me play a few different spots in the defense if they need me to play them."

Look for Griffin to now become NIU's lead recruiter especially in the halls for Homewood-Flossmoor.

"I'm definitely already talking to Justin (Hall) and Mario (Wright II) about joining me at NIU."

Ok guys, here we go!

1. Julian Pearl
*no twitter*

OT Danville HS, Danville, IL

Height: 6'7"
Weight: 245 lbs

Quote:Danville (IL) junior offensive tackle recruit Julian Pearl (6-foot-7, 245 pounds) received an offer and visited Northern Illinois University last week, and earlier today Pearl called up NIU head coach Rod Carey and staff and gave the Huskies his early verbal commitment.

"I committed to NIU earlier today," Pearl said. "I just really felt comfortable at NIU when visited with my Mom last week. The more I thought about it the more I was ready. NIU feels like a great fit."

Pearl also talked about why he decided to end his recruiting process early and pledge to the in-state Huskies.

"NIU just feels right to me. It actually feels like home to me in so many positive ways. I really like the coaches at NIU and the program has a really strong family feel. I was pretty interested in NIU early on and once I visited it was better than I expected. I just feel a great bond with NIU. I also didn't want to drag my recruiting out at all. I just felt like I was ready to decide to I committed."

Pearl , a multi-sport athlete at Danville was offered by NIU as an offensive tackle recruit in the Class of 2018.

"NIU likes me as an offensive tackle. They feel like I will be able to add more weight and size. NIU also likes my mobility and quickness and feel that my future will be on the offensive line in college."

Pearl, who played tight end and defensive end for the Vikinga and head coach BJ Luke last season is more than willing to adjust to play on the NIU offensive line.

"It will be a bit of an adjustment but I'm more than ready. A lot of coaches and schools have talked about my size and playing offensive line in college already. It wasn't a big surprise that NIU wanted me as an offensive tackle."

Pearl becomes the first known verbal commitment in the NIU Class of 2018.

Continuing the trend was height and size, love it! Great to get on these in-state kids right off the bat

We need help on the D-Line. A 6'6" DE sounds great!

RE: 2018 Official Verbal Thread
Mike DeHaan and Julian Pearl both rated as 3* by Scout. Nice! Scout has done a nice job on updating our site. Rivals, ESPN and 247 have done very little to keep us current. 247 has a list up, but they do not show our 2 commits anywhere. Rivals and ESPN are really far behind.

Yes they are big guys and even more upside is that all three have played a skill position, so they should all be relatively quick or have good reflexes.

The video linked said Class of 17, so I thinking a preferred walk on in this year's class.

yup, looks like a 17 walkon. Surprised we didnt see more of these. Years past it seemed like we always had 5-10 walkons
