Dean Hutch has had it with this behavior!!! Well, that seals it for me, something must be done! Jump on that bandwagon Hutch, its what you're good at.
I swear, if Hutch is against it, I'm for it.

Ok, exaggeration, but man I'm sick of Dean D**chebag.

You aren't the only one. Great professor, but a total clown of an administrator.

Leftist. Is that what YOU call anyone who remembers the horror of the Holocaust now? Leftist? So I suppose the men who liberated the concentration camps were all Leftists. Interesting theory, brother. I guess I'm a Leftist then. What are you?

You definitely have the Freedom of Speech to voice support to those drawing swastikas on Rice statues. Surprised that you would, though.

I support drawing of swastikas even less than I support burning of American flags or sitting during the National Anthem, but under the law, they all count the same as Freedom of Speech. The vandalism is a separate offense. You cannot vandalize property even if everybody likes your message. I don't support vandalism, either.

I was wrong. Sounds like it was the leftist or anarchist all along. I wonder what the professors are teaching at Rice. How to hate our current President and promote open borders ? I would recommend you remove this topic from the board. Other wise you may have donors leaving in droves from Rice.

Sigh...moving to the Quad, since this thread has started down that path anyway.

Update.

So essentially, what I posted earlier is true.

While it was vandalism, the intent was to equate Trump with Nazi Facism, it was an indictment of Trump

The vandal's intent then was not to encourage racism, but to criticize Trump. The vandal was not supportive of Nazi ideology but was using it as a label (negative) toward Trump.

I get that the symbol is understood to be anti-Semitic on sight, and in fact obviously was understood that way.

But my point earlier, is that every message has context.

The reason I made the point earlier, and repeat it now, is that the articles title would lead a casual 'scanner' to assume a certain type of individual had defaced the statue.

This has nothing to do with the professors or Rice in general.

But it says something about the headline author and the knee jerk use of certain terms and their perspective.

"More Racist Vandalism at Rice"

versus

"Anti-Trump Vandalism at Rice"

The first headline conjures up images of white hooded skulkers on campus.

As noted earlier, my objection is the use of the word "Racist" in the headlines. "Vandalism" is sufficient. Put ALL the facts in the article and let the reader draw their own conclusions.

Agree with your post, but confused about the title of it.

The Swastika counts as racist vandalism I suppose, but per the article also had the name Trump next to it, so it seems as likely to me that it was, or could be interpreted as, an insult to/protest of, Trump.

On the Berlin Wall section, I thought the graffiti was "Trump 2016" and "Aloha"? Vandalism? Definitely! Racist? Need a lot more that "Trump" and "Aloha"

I certainly am not condoning the graffiti/vandalism, but the thread topic "More Racist Vandalism" might be more accurate as either:

"More Vandalism at Rice", or

"Swastika chalked onto Rice founder's statue, along with a reference to Trump"

I would be interested to get the viewpoint of the perpetrator, but I doubt that will happen.

The protest posters hung in Anderson Hall (in the photo gallery that accompanied the Chronicle article) did not rise in my mind to the level of racism (obviously, based on the message), or graffiti (a poster, not a defacement of a permanent structure or piece of art (or a rail car for that matter)).

The three propaganda posters also referenced, and placed at various spots around the campus perimeter (I'm assuming at points along the jogging trail by the description in the article) WERE racist in the sense they were touting a white supremacist organization, however, as they were posters they were not really graffiti, and were vandalism only at the same level of a garage sale poster or a poster promoting a band playing at a local venue, placed somewhere where a poster is prohibited.

Cue Hutch backpedaling now. He would happily expel a Trump supporter, but I very much doubt he will expel one of his "angry but adorable" liberal activists. Will be interesting to see the consequences of this.

From the article I was getting the vibe that it was an off campus group, similar in that vein to that white nationalist group that postered the campus recently.

But regardless, if you read Hutch's post, he hedged his bets in how he described the nauseous nature of using a swastika in graffiti.
