FOY
Looks like this past week could go either way between Daly and Riller. Both scored 35 points. Daly had more rebounds and assists. Riller had more steals and blocked shots. They are both way ahead of other freshmen at this point for freshman of the year. Either would be a deserving choice.

RE: FOY
Is there anyone else in the mix? It's great to have two Freshman playing at this level in the CAA. UNCW has a good one in Jaylen Fornes. However, he's been stuck behind a solid bunch of upperclassmen in a guard heavy roster at UNCW. In his first start of the year, he scored 17 pts. against Delaware Saturday. Not in the mix due to PT, but another good one on the way. He is remembered for putting up 50+ in a HS game his senior year, so he can fill it up.

RE: FOY
Drexel's Kurk Lee is tenth in the CAA with 14.6 points per game. That's close to the freshman rank and average of one of the best players in CAA history, Charles Jenkins, who was tenth with 15.0 points per game. Daly (14.9 points per game), Lee, Hofstra's Eli Pemberton (13.3), and Riller (13.1) are the top scoring freshmen. Jenkins was a freshman in 2007-2008. In the eight complete seasons starting with 2008-2009, the CAA has had four freshman average at least 13 points per game. Now the CAA has four freshman doing that in one season.

RE: FOY
Going by CAA only Stats Daly is 17 a game and Riller 16. Since Riller took his knee brace off about 8 games ago he is ave 20 plus a game. Another good Freshman is Knight.

RE: FOY
Congrats to Brace from NU for rookie of the week this past week. He came from out of sight ave less than 5 a week and 21 a week last week. Lots of good freshmen this season.

Just looked again. Did not go far enough first time. Congrats to Lee also who shared this honor with Brace

Both Riller and Daly came to Trask Coliseum last week, and Riller came out as being more impressive. Part of that, however, is Riller has a significantly better team around him of course. Daly has been basically the only positive for the entire Blue Hens roster this year. It's neck and neck between them at this point.

Which is exactly why I lean towards Daly. He's doing more with less.

RE: FOY
Top 2 contenders share rookie of the week. This will probably be decided by their play in the last 2 weeks.

Daly gets rookie of the week, Riller would have to get it this week in order to still have a chance for FOY.

RE: FOY
Did all of Daly's rookie of the week honors come in CAA play?

5 of Daly's 6 Rookie of the Week honors have come during CAA play.

RE: FOY
I'm examining the statistics, and it looks like I would give the small edge to Ryan Daly over Kurk Lee. But you can't rule out Lee for FOY.

Daly - 8th in scoring. 5th in rebounding, 12th in FG%, 10th in minutes
Lee - 9th in scoring, 13th in FG%, 4th in assists, 3rd in steals, 11th in minutes,
Riller - 17th in scoring, not even in the top 50 in rebounding, 4th in FT%, 49th in blocks, 16th in steals, 32nd in minutes/

Riller had a stronger supporting cast and less of an individual impact to the team. Daly and Lee basically had to carry their teams on their shoulders as freshman so FOY will likely be one of those 2.

Disagree with that reasoning. Because Daly and Lee were their teams go to players they both shot over 100 more times than Riller. Yet in CAA play.Riller was ahead of Lee in scoring and 1.5 a game behind Daly. Rillers shooting percentages were higher than either of them

So you're saying that Riller deserves it because he's on a better team, even though he's played less and contributed less? I think that when you have 3 really good players in the running, you've got to give the edge to the ones who were more valuable to their own teams. Daly was clearly the best player on Delaware. Lee was the 1st or 2nd best player on Drexel. All 3 will be on the all-rookie team, but I still think they give the edge to Daly. Not sure who the other big rookies are in the CAA, but they might also put Kari "Iceman" Jonnson of Drexel on the rookie team as well, even with his late season injury.

RE: FOY
Riller is the more efficient player, sure, but that's what happens when you're not needed for a lot of volume on a quality squad.

When you're the only/best offensive threat, your efficiency numbers decline. Doesn't mean that hurts Daly or Lee's respective cases.

RE: FOY
Daly will get it not Riller. Just pointing out I do big think any player should be.penalized because of the team he plays on. You could have valid reasons for either of them. I also go by CAA stats and not full.season. Some teams played much weaker ooc than others and stats from those weaker teams inflated their stats

Here are the top four scoring freshmen in all games sorted from hardest to easiest schedule:

College of Charleston (Riller): SOS 143th, OOC SOS 130th
Hofstra (Pemberton): SOS 147th, OOC SOS 159th
Delaware (Daly): SOS 190th, OOC SOS 305th
Drexel (Lee): SOS 210th, OOC SOS 324th

Daly and Lee's teams are close, and both of them have played a significantly easier schedule that Riller's team. Note that since you don't play yourself, the team with the best winning percentage in the conference will have the worst strength of schedule from conference games. Those have the same order in opposite directions. For example, if you take College of Charleston's two games against Delaware out of their SOS and replace it with College of Charleston having two games against themselves, their SOS would be farther ahead of Delaware and Drexel. If you take Delaware's two games against College of Charleston out of their SOS and replace it with Delaware having two games against themselves, their SOS would be worse.

No one does. EvanJ spends most of his time on this board talking to himself. I feel bad for the guy. The Hofstra team board must be desolate.
