RE: 2017 FB Roster Notes
Seems lots of folks didn't like the stinnie hire and saw it as one year to get a pension.... talented guy, glad he is sticking around and getting into his passion-area... Houston doing a hell of a job. Can't wait for next year - already have a flt to Greenville

At our level, hiring Stinespring would have been worth it just for his recruiting ties. The fact that he was willing to work cheap and could coach a couple of different positions was a bonus.

You could be right 'Nation. For some reason I thought Kirkpatrick was a little older than he is. Should he be <60 when the job opens, seems like a good possibility. He's already been a head coach at the FCS level.

I think the majority of people loved the hire as a position coach. People were not a fan of him possibly becoming the head coach.

Kirkpatrick is not head coaching material. He had his shot 15 years ago and went 10-24. No retreads needed

I think a lot were concerned about him being the head coach, but loved him being a position coach. How could anyone not be happy about him being a position coach? I think everyone felt that a good get from the start.

RE: 2017 FB Roster Notes
In case you missed it, Mitchell Kirsch was honored last night at the Norfolk Sports Club for Outstanding Football Sudent-Athlete in the state. Coach Houston couldn't make it due to previous obligations, but he was supposed to be honored too.

The keynote speaker was Va Tech's HC Justin Fuentes. Nothing better than having a Hokie having to acknowledge high level accomplishments by the Dukes. (And squirm to avoid answering scheduling questions of why Va Tech won't play JMU since the embarrassment that occurred in Lane stadium on 9/11/2010.)

RE: 2017 FB Roster Notes
I was thinking more along the line of players that don't get much PT having stronger academic resumes. Do the studs have delusions of grandeur and think they are going to the league so they don't need to work towards their future?

Just an observation since I recruit student-athletes on the east coast and find the combo of student and athlete to be less and less common.
Same practice schedule, same tutors, same environment. Differing effort

You should hire Schor.

I was pretty excited about our 21, until I discovered every CAA team had at least 19. We were actually 11th out of 12- beat out the Lobstermen.

RE: 2017 FB Roster Notes
I'll admit ignorance on the academic honors, but is it ultimately based on gpa, among other metrics? I would say that an A at W&M isn't the same as an A at Towson, nor is a marketing major the same as a biochemistry major. It's hard to really make these lists apples to apples, I would think.

With that being said, 11th out of 12 isn't anything special.

Could be 2 headlines:
"21 Dukes Named to CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team"

"JMU next to last in CAA in number of player named to the CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team"
