Baseball Spring Intrasquads
The official 3-weeks of team practice kicks off tomorrow (Friday). Here's the pitching lineup for the first 3 intrasquads...
Friday: Schwarz, Esquivel, Kravetz, Garcia, Moss and Silber
Saturday: Myers, Salinas, Canterino and Orewiler
Sunday: Jefferies, Mueller, Wright, Gayle, Schragger, Parthasarathy and Amador
The good news is that both Parthasarathy and Canterino are already healthy enough (and must have had sufficiently quality bullpens) to pitch competitively to batters. The discouraging news-- Otto continues to be held out.

Almost always open. The gates to Reckling are open. There's usually two clusters of people in the stands: (1) Roger Towers and some alums in the first rows down the 1B line (by our dugout), and (2) Wayne Graham, the non-competing pitchers and "insiders" in Section F behind home plate. Oftentimes there is also a sprinkling of parents scattered in the upper decks.

What time do they get going? Might come out on Sunday and check them out.

No clue, and I haven't asked. I know it's nothing that requires surgery, and I did see him working out with weights daily while in Cuba, so I doubt it's anything like the shoulder impingement (form of tendonitis) Duplantier suffered through a couple years back Who knows-- he could be pitching bullpens. All I know is that he hasn't pitch in intrasquads since the first couple weeks of Fall Ball.

I'll go sit with the "insiders" in section F this weekend and find out what's up.

I mean he did pitch a ton last season and then was on Team USA.

Ok. I wasn't sure, but I thought it was a bit early for that discussion to raise its ugly head.

Some optimism re. Josh Petitte per Mark Berman, but I'll believe it when I see it. That's an awfully quick turnaround from December surgery on a broken bone in the elbow...

RE: Baseball Spring Intrasquads
First day of intrasquads-- and a chilly one at that-- saw both Esquivel and Kravetz each pitch 3 strong innings (though Zach's one hit allowed was a 3-run bomb by Andrew Dunlap, who could be odd man out in the DH competition with Sarchet and Sheppard now on the roster). Silber and Moss each pitched two solid innings, though each gave up a run. Both Sarchet and Sheppard doubled, Gray tripled, Chandler walked 3 times (a great sign!), Warren and Proctor each with a couple singles and a walk and Myers had 3 RBIs.
Here's Roger Tower's recap...

They were in the process of taking the old one down yesterday.

Is the sb going to be our Achilles heel this year? From the write up I counted 5 sb with no cs. No box score so I don't know what the final tally was. I like the fact that we're running. Just hope the success is due to our speed and not our defense.

We haven't consistently stolen bases even when we have "speed" in the lineup. I'm taking that as a bad sign at this point.
